Gary Hallman Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Gary Hallman has been recognized as professor emeritus by the University of Minnesota Regis Center for the Arts since 2010.

With more than 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Hallman has been recognized as professor emeritus by the University of Minnesota Regis Center for the Arts since 2010, having been an associate professor of photography since 1976. He also taught as visiting professor at the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of New Mexico. In addition to his work in academia, he has been an active artist in the photography community. His professional memberships have included the Society for Photographic Education and The College Art Association. He was awarded the SPE Midwest Chapter Honored Educator in 2009.

In addition to his work in academia, he has been an active artist in the photography community. Mr. Hallman has had his work exhibited in International Museum of Photography, the George Eastman Museum, the Light Gallery, the Baltimore Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. His work has been featured at the Beijing Film Academy, the National Museum of American Art, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum and the Hudson Valley Institute for Art and Photographic Resources, the Museum of Nonconformist Art, St. Petersburg, Russia, Barg Gallery, Tehran, and the Regis Center for Art, Minneapolis. His work was included in the Bamboo Festival International, and featured as a solo exhibition at the Ping Yao International Photography Festival, China.

Mr. Hallman curated "Mississippi/Neva" an exhibition of American photographers shown at The State Russian Museum /Stroganov Palace in St. Petersburg. With the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art he co-curated the U.S. traveling exhibition of contemporary Iranian photography "Persian Visions." In 1991 he co-chaired "Second Generation Original," a national conference on new imaging technologies.

Among others, Mr. Hallman's pieces are currently represented in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the International Museum of Photography, the National Gallery of Canada, the Fogg Art Museum, and the Princeton University Art Museum. He has been further featured in the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution.

Mr. Hallman began his career in the United States Navy, serving in air traffic control as an E5 from 1958 to 1961. He subsequently pursued an education at the University of Minnesota, completing a Bachelor of Arts in 1966 and earning a Master of Fine Arts in 1971. Memberships have included the College Art Association and the Society of Photography Education.

Throughout his career, Mr. Hallman has been honored for his achievements. He has been recognized as a fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts, the Minnesota Survey Project, the Bush Foundation, the McKnight Foundation, and the Minnesota State Arts Board. Mr. Hallman has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in America: Student Version.
