As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With over 35 years of professional experience to her credit, Dr. Haglund has held the title of Professor Emerita of California State University, Long Beach, since 2009. Joining the university as a professor in 1971, she has dedicated her entire teaching career to international education, including a few years as the director of the study abroad programs. In addition to her decades with California State University, Long Beach, Dr. Haglund has taught at institutions across the globe, including Ecuador, Turkey, Mexico, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Vietnam, Northern Cyprus, Morocco, Peking Graduate School in China, and others. She is also a recipient of three Fulbright Fellowships in Africa, two of which were spent teaching in Nigeria.

With a longstanding love of the complexity and joys of the teaching process, Dr. Haglund has a special interest in social justice issues and how they impact the education sector both domestically and internationally. Having received support from federal and state grants, she has published numerous articles in academic refereed journals and presented papers at a variety of national and international conferences. More broadly, she focuses her research efforts in the areas of human diversity in the field of educational anthropology and cultural transmission/social reproduction. Also, in terms of instructors' responsibility as change agents for social justice, she has been involved in research on the rights of indigenous women in economically emerging countries.

Teaching at U.S. overseas schools in Germany and Japan during the early years of her career, Dr. Haglund primarily taught students of military families. Doing a considerable amount of traveling during this time, she began cultivating her interest in international studies. When she returned to the United States in 1968, she pursued further education, earning both a master's degree and a doctorate in international education. Initially, she planned to continue her work overseas, but when the opportunity arose to join California State University, Long Beach, she happily accepted the opportunity so as to spearhead the national movement of internationalizing the curriculum and co-curricular activities.

For excellence in her career, Dr. Haglund has received a number of honors, such as for Distinguished Teaching and a variety of awards representing her academic leadership in the fields of higher education and international education.
