How safe is facial liposuction?

As facial liposuction rapidly gains popularity, you may be wondering just how safe these types of procedures are.

/24-7PressRelease/ - LOS ANGELES, CA, April 10, 2008 - The media has featured a number of stories recently about the risks of liposuction and many cosmetic surgery patients are asking about the risks involved in facial liposuction procedures that are gaining popularity.

While any surgical procedure has risks, the those of facial liposuction are much less than those associated with traditional liposuction procedures.

"Facial liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure," says Dr. Babak Azizzadeh, a cosmetic surgeon who works on patients in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, California. "Facial liposuction is so safe that I often perform in conjunction with other procedures like facelifts or facial implants."

Why facial liposuction is safer
There are several reasons for this lesser risk, including:

• Facial liposuction is performed using smaller tools, and with much greater precision
• Facial liposuction carries a much less risk of damaging internal organs or causing serious infection
• Facial liposuction procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia, reducing the risks associated with general anesthesia

Complications of facial liposuction are rare
A recent study showed that less than one quarter of malpractice claims associated with liposuction procedures were from procedures performed in a doctor's office rather than a hospital; and although one third of liposuction procedures are performed by dermatologists (those most likely to perform a facial liposuction procedure). This group was involved in less than 1% of malpractice claims.

Dr. Babak Azizzadeh would be more than happy to answer any questions you have about cosmetic surgery. Contact him to schedule an appointment.
