ATLANTA, GA, April 19, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Atlanta's African Diaspora hosts African Union Town Hall with African Union Ambassador to the USA and Caribbean H.E. Dr. Arikana Chihombori Quao. After making history with the ratification of the AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area), creating a $2.3 trillion dollar market, the African Union is engaged in unprecedented outreach to people of African descent. Under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, the AU is on a mission to ensure African diaspora inclusion in the exponential business opportunities that will be catalyzed by a single market.

With a solid Atlanta-based committee, Dr. Quao hosts the first ever African Union Town Hall in Atlanta, Georgia on April 23rd 2019 at the AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library from 6:30pm-8:30pm (RSVP required). Register Here https://www.eventbrite.com/e/african-union-town-hall-atlanta-georgia- ... 9276420369. A fitting location as she also happens to be the First HBCU graduate to serve as African Union Ambassador to the US and Caribbean. While in Atlanta, she will meet with Mayor Keisha Lance-Bottoms, the Office of International Affairs, influencers and several key stakeholders in the African Diaspora constituency during her first visit to Atlanta since her assumption of office in 2017. The Ambassador brings a message best summed up as "Organize for Opportunity".

The AU Townhall will be the highlight of the Honorable Arikana Chihombori-Quao's visit to Atlanta, GA. This is an inclusive event that both honors the work of noble Pan-africanists that have tirelessly worked to organize the African Diaspora* for practical impact and young emerging leaders looking to collaboratively carry this great work forward. And it is occurring within a historic year that marks 400 years since the first enslaved Africans arrived in English America and represents a massive opportunity to envision and create the global African family we want.

The African Union defines the African Diaspora very broadly as people of African Descent living outside Africa. The UN estimates that there are about 200 million people of African descent outside Africa in various constituencies such as African Americans, Afro Latinos, Afro Brazilians and Afro Caribs - a point H.E. Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao makes sure to emphasize.

According to Ambassador Chihombori-Quao, there are numerous low hanging opportunities already available for Diaspora Africans in Africa, but the official ratification of the African Union Sixth Region and AU Passport for Diaspora Africans require organization, show of numbers and advocacy.

She comes to Atlanta with a vision and posture to listen and co-create an inclusive plan that gets the buy-in of critical stakeholders in the African Diaspora Community. The event will cover the following issues: Update on significant developments in the African Union; Brief on the 2019 February African Union Summit; Update on historic progress on African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA); Introduction of Steering Committee for African Diaspora Health Initiative Africa House Georgia;Wakanda; African Union Passport; and the R 400 Initiative.
