New Film Brings Awareness to PTSD, Veterans and Military Sexual Trauma in April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month

"A Sense of Purpose: Fighting For Our Lives" has received praise from veterans, sexual assault advocates, and veterans' organization for its hard-hitting truth about the problems that the military has yet to truly address.

NEW YORK, NY, April 20, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As the recipient of the Best Feature Film Award at Ocktober Film Festival 2018, award winning filmmaker, Jillian Bullock, will receive a limited theatrical distribution deal at Stuart Cinema & Café in NY from April 25-28, 2019. A screening of "A Sense of Purpose: Fighting For Our Lives," will take place in support of veterans, active duty members and their families. The general public will also be invited to see this important movie.

This powerful film tells the story of Sgt. Diane Torres, who was raped by her commanding officer, Captain Jake Nixon. Dealing with PTSD, her situation is further complicated when she learns she is pregnant with Nixon's baby. However, the film also focuses on Nixon, who suffers from PTSD as well. Not many movies seek to explore or answer why is he a rapist? What happened in his life? Can there be redemption? Forgiveness?

"A Sense of Purpose: Fighting For Our Lives" has received praise from veterans, sexual assault advocates, and veterans' organization for its hard-hitting truth about the problems that the military has yet to truly address or to make significant improvements to stop, or reduce, rape and assault in the armed forces.

Some of the scenes in the film are raw and gritty since Bullock didn't want to shy away from the depiction of sexual violence and the damage that affects the victims, often in the form of PTSD, depression and suicidal ideation, and the impact this has on their families, friends, children, spouses, and society. The film unflinchingly examines the aftermath of MST (military sexual trauma) and how the veterans' lives are altered when they return home.

With the #Metoo and #TimesUp movements and many celebrities and politicians bringing more awareness to these issues, the military needs more attention, especially considering it is the largest employer in the world. Bullock's motivation to write, direct and produce "A Sense of Purpose: Fighting For Our Lives" was her belief that the only way to initiate change is to face the truth about what happens to the men and women who serve in the Armed Forces.

Thursday, April 25th will be the grand opening for the movie, followed by a Q&A with Bullock, the lead actors, Tamara Woods and John Quinlan and Producer/DP Lamont Fountain.
