Final Salute To Be Recognized By Tysons Tower Club

Organization Houses Homeless Women Veterans and Their Children

ALEXANDRIA, VA, May 07, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Final Salute (https://www.finalsaluteinc.org) will be recognized by The Women's Committee of the Vienna, Virginia-based Tysons Tower Club at its second annual fundraising celebration on May 23rd, 6-9PM. Guests at the event – "Served Like a Girl - A Celebration Honoring Female Veterans" – will include keynote speaker United States Army veteran Jas Boothe, founder and president of Final Salute, Command Sergeant Major (ret.) Michele S. Jones, and Desiree Pabon, Ms. Veteran America 2018 - SFC. More information about the event is available on EventBrite. Donations to Final Salute can be made at https://www.finalsaluteinc.org/Donate.html.

Women veterans are the fastest growing homeless population in the United States and over half are single mothers. Final Salute is the only non-profit organization in the Washington, DC metro area that provides homeless women veterans and their children with safe and suitable housing. Since its launch, Final Salute has supplied almost 13,000 days of transitional housing and supported over 5,000 women veterans and their children in more than 30 states and territories.

"We are delighted to spotlight Final Salute as well as Jas' leadership," says Women's Committee Chair Stephanie Scarola. "Jas and her organization have made a major contribution toward addressing homelessness among women veterans. And she has helped raise awareness of a critical issue."

According to Boothe, a cancer survivor and disabled army veteran who founded Final Salute after experiencing post-deployment homelessness, "Women veterans become homeless for many reasons. These include service-related injuries and illness; domestic violence; PTSD; disabilities; lack of a family or social support network; and substance abuse. But the biggest cause is the shortage of affordable services that are designed to meet the needs of women veterans. For example, 70 percent of the women who approach Final Salute have children, and most government-funded veteran homeless shelters aren't geared for women with children."

Boothe adds, "I am very pleased about the Women's Committee's recognition of Final Salute's work with homeless women veterans, and I appreciate the visibility they are giving us. It will allow us to help even more mothers and their families."
