Ulrich Mahlknecht, MD, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Mahlknecht is a physician and educator of more than two decades who has been employed at Saarland University in Homburg/Saar, Germany, the Universities of Heidelberg, the University of Frankfurt and the University of Freiburg since 1995. As professor of medicine in the department of hematology and oncology and the director of the department of immunotherapy and gene therapy, he greatly enjoys his work and he was a faculty member at the Saarland University and currently still at the University of Heidelberg. He teaches and is doing research as a full professor of medicine at the Heidelberg University since 2006, and he was principal investigator within the Emmy-Noether Research program, the prestigious excellence program being funded by the German National Science Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG). Dr. Mahlknecht also spent several years as a senior scientist at the University of Frankfurt in Germany and was both a senior scientist and a postdoctoral fellow at the Picower Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset, New York.

An accomplished writer in his field, Dr. Mahlknecht has authored over 100 articles for professional journals and is co-author of numerous books as well. He founded the Clinical Epigenetics Society in 2008 of which he serves as president to date and he founded the "Clinical Epigenetics", an international journal owned by the Springer Nature group, being ranked number one within its field. An elected fellow and former selection committee member of the German National Merit Foundation, he has also been active as a member of multiple other organizations. Some of these include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Molecular Medicine Society, the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology, the German Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the New York Society for the Study of Blood.

The recipient of a German National Merit Foundation fellowship from 1988 to 1994, Dr. Mahlknecht also received grants from the German National Science Foundation from 1997 to 1999 and from 2001 until 2007. He soon after received a Postgraduate Research Award from the Novartis Foundation in 2001 and a Joachim Kuhlmann AIDS Award in 2001, the highest ranked award in the field of HIV research in the German speaking countries. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Mahlknecht has been cited in over a dozen editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.

Dr. Mahlknecht first earned a Doctor of Medicine at the Eberhard Karls University of Tubingen in Germany in 1994 before going on to complete a residency in internal medicine at the University of Freiburg in Germany from 1995 to 1996. Following these accomplishments, he concluded his studies with a Doctor of Philosophy from the State University of New York in 1998. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology, gastroenterology and palliative medicine. Dr. Mahlknecht has been certified through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates since 1997.
