ROCHESTER, MN, May 28, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Harvinder S. Luthra, MBBS, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Luthra celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Luthra became interested in medicine when he witnessed patients being treated poorly by the health care industry. Desiring to be part of the movement to assist patients in changing the way they were treated, he delved into the field of rheumatology because there were few doctors in the field and patients were struggling with misdiagnoses. Obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the Christian Medical College & Hospital in Ludhiana, India, in 1967, Dr. Luthra subsequently completed an internship and residency before relocating to the United States in 1969 to serve as an intern at Middlesex General Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and a resident in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Chicago.
Commencing his career in 1972, Dr. Luthra excelled as a trainee in rheumatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for two years before ascending the ranks to chair of the division of rheumatology at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science for eight years. Alongside this endeavor, he was also the John Finn professor of medicine with the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine from 1995 until his retirement in 2017.
Among his notable achievements, Dr. Luthra is most renowned for his research in collagen-induced arthritis in mice and the HLA-B27 molecule's role in arthritis. He also sat on the board of directors of the American Board of Internal Medicine, serving as chair of the subspecialty of rheumatology for four years. A contributor of myriad articles to esteemed medical journals, Dr. Luthra maintains affiliation with the Arthritis Foundation and the American College of Rheumatology.
In spite of his achievements in medicine, Dr. Luthra is most proud of his professorship and being a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. He also finds delight in his tenure as the chair of the division of rheumatology at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, where he also spent time as the vice chair of the department of medicine for research.
As a testament to his longevity in the health care industry, Dr. Luthra has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades over the years. He was notably selected for inclusion in the fourth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, as well as in the second and third editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and the 56th through 58th editions of Who's Who in America. Happily married to his wife, Annu, for many years, Dr. Luthra is the proud father of three children and grandfather to three wonderful grandchildren.
