From a young age, he was immersed in American history, and eventually gained inspiration from founding government leaders who also practiced law. He was also influenced by Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr., for whom he had much respect. Today, in addition to his primary appointment in law, Mr. Burnette also serves as an adjunct professor of law at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, a position he previously held with the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg.
As a respected individual in his field, Mr. Burnette's superior skills earned him a spot as the youngest elected president of the Virginia State Bar at just 39 years old. He has also utilized his knowledge and experience to contribute articles to professional journals, including "General District Court: It's Not Just for Property Damage Cases Anymore," published in the Virginia Trial Lawyers Journal. Mr. Burnette is a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation and the American Bar Foundation, and a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Bar Association.
For excellence in his career, Mr. Burnette has been named among the Best Lawyers in America and received both a Public Service Award and the Pro Bono Award from the Lynchburg Bar Association. He is also the recipient of the Citizen Lawyer Award from the William & Mary Law School Association. In light of all his accomplishments, Mr. Burnette was previously featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
Prior to embarking on his career, Mr. Burnette pursued formal education at the College of William & Mary. First earning a Bachelor of Arts in government, he subsequently concluded his studies with a Doctor of Jurisprudence.
