VERO BEACH, FL, May 29, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Roger H. Compton, DEng, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Compton celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Compton is a Professor Emeritus who served as the Director of the Hydromechanics Laboratory at the U.S. Naval Academy between 1988 and 1996. A faculty member at the Academy for 32 years beginning in 1966, he not only taught but also chaired the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering. He also served as Dean at Webb Institute in Glen Cove, NY, for thirteen years until 2011.

In July 2007, Dr. Compton authored "On the Education for Twenty-First Century Ship Designers" in Marine Technology and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers News. He also presented on the topic at the Stevens Institute on December 12, 2006.

Active for many years with the American Society of Naval Engineers, Dr. Compton is a lifetime member, national council member and 1995 Solberg Award recipient. He is also affiliated with the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers as an Honorary Member, Past President, Fellow and 1991 Distinguished Service Award recipient. He has been on the organization's council since 2004 as well. Until his retirement in 2011, he was a longtime member of the American Society of Engineering Education.

Honored with a William H. Webb Medal from the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers in 2007, Dr. Compton also received a William Selkirk Owen Award from Webb Institute in 2002, an ADM E.L. Cochrane Medal in 1998 and a Research Excellence Award from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1996, among other accolades. He has been cited in over a dozen editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the East.

Becoming interested in his field because of his father, who was an avid sailor, Dr. Compton had decided by the time he was a junior in high school that he wanted to become either a naval officer or learn how to design ships. Deciding that he was more interested in the latter, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and a Master of Science in Naval Architecture at Webb Institute. While at the Institute, Dr. Compton founded and directed the Webb Family Singers, a college choir in 2000. He received a Doctor of Engineering in Ocean Engineering from The Catholic University in 1974.

Dr. Compton is married to Jill Compton and they share seven grandchildren. In his free time, he and his wife are active in community theater and four choral groups: Treasure Coast Chorale, The Silver Tones, the ACTS Choristers and the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach Chancel Choir. He also enjoys spending time sailing, playing golf, participating in RC sailboat racing, and traveling.
