    NEW YORK, NY, May 30, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Elizabeth Gittman, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Gittman celebrates more than 45 years of experience in the field of education, and is recognized for her achievements, leadership, and contributions.

Dr. Gittman developed and institutionalized innovative education programs and services. Her expertise in research design, program evaluation, and quantitative analysis allowed mindful communication and collaboration with program administrators and other personnel, resulting in many successful outcomes in funding and program implementation.

Dr. Gittman presented research at seminars, workshops and conferences, and published in ERIC documents, journals, newsletters, and anthologies. She wrote successful applications for funding a wide range of education, service, and research programs incorporating instructional design, integration of technology, alternative education formats and strategies for targeted populations (e.g., gifted and talented students, pregnant and parenting teens, limited English speaking students), cultural arts initiatives, staff development, mentor support, attendance improvement, prevention of school dropout, occupational/vocational programs including field opportunities, substance abuse prevention, parenting education, volunteer programs, and more.

Dr. Gittman was Coordinator of Institutional Research and Evaluation at the Board of Cooperative Education Services of Nassau County (1984 to 1994) and Adjunct Professor at C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University (1987 to 1993). She was Principal Investigator for a federally-funded multi-year substance abuse prevention model program for middle school youth and served for several years on a High Risk Youth Special Review Committee for the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

As Associate Professor of Education at New York Institute of Technology (appointed 1994), Dr. Gittman taught graduate classes and seminars in research and pre-service education, developed collaborative projects with local school districts, assessed student success in distance learning programs, and obtained funding for special projects.

When Dr. Gittman accepted the position as Director of Instructional Support Services for the Commack Public Schools (1998), she supervised district-wide testing, English Language Arts curriculum, academic and reading improvement services, staff development, gifted students' programs, library and media services, funded programs, research and evaluation studies on district practices and outcomes, and prepared and presented reports to the Board of Education.

Dr. Gittman consulted with education and service organizations beginning in 1979 when she earned her Ph.D and continued consulting after she retired from full-time employment. Her most extensive consulting association, from 2005 to 2017, was with Shalom Task Force (STF), a not-for-profit organization. She helped STF design programs, develop grant applications, and conduct evaluation studies responsive to federal initiatives to prevent domestic violence. STF's programs were recognized as models for the country.

Dr. Gittman earned a Bachelor of Science from New York University in 1966. She taught elementary school in Queens, New York from 1966 to 1968 and was granted tenure. She earned a Master of Science degree from Queens College in 1969. After a maternity leave of several years, she resigned her teaching position and enrolled full-time at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York where she earned a Doctor of Philosophy (1979) with specialization in research and measurement. Also at Hofstra, she earned a postgraduate certificate of advanced study in Education Administration (1986). Dr. Gittman holds permanent New York State certification as common branches (k-6) teacher, school building supervisor, and school district administrator.

Dr. Gittman's achievements and contributions were recognized throughout her career. As a Bachelor's degree recipient, she received the New York University Founders Day Award for exceptional scholarship; she completed the Masters degree with honors; she was named a Hofstra University doctoral fellow. She was elected to the Board of the Northeastern Education Research Association and served NERA in many capacities (1990 to 1998) including newsletter editor, program co-chair, award and membership committees, financial secretary, and treasurer. Dr. Gittman was on the Board of Directors of Phi Delta Kappa, the graduate education national honor society at Long Island University. She served PDK Chapter 1524 in various Board positions including that of president. She was twice the recipient of the Phi Delta Kappa Service Award (1998, 2005).

Other professional organizations to which Dr. Gittman belongs are the American Educational Research Association, the American Evaluation Association, the American Psychological Association, and the New York Academy of Sciences.

In light of her accomplishments, Dr. Gittman has been featured in multiple editions of Marquis' honors publications including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
