PHOENIX, AZ, May 31, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Attorney David Shapiro presented a $5000 scholarship to Timotea Garcia-Mendez, the winner of his first Safe Driving Scholarship Contest. Miss Garcia-Mendez won the scholarship by keeping our roads safe through use of the Motovate safe driving app.

Earlier this year, Attorney David Shapiro announced his scholarship contest on social media. In order to enter the contest, high school students in the Phoenix area had to download the Motovate Safe Driving App. Every time a student completed a trip with no distractions (no texting, making calls, or social media use while driving), they were awarded one chance to win the $5000 scholarship. The more safe trips a student completed the more chances they had to win.

Hundreds of students from across the Phoenix metro area downloaded the app and registered to participate. Since April 1, 2019 when the contest was announced, more than 20 thousand safe trips were completed by the contest participants. According to David Shapiro, "the response to our scholarship was extraordinary, but the amount of safe trips completed is what impressed me most. The more safe drivers there are on the roads means the roads are safer for all families and law enforcement across our community."

The winner of the scholarship was randomly drawn last week and turned out to be 18 year old Timotea Garcia-Mendez of Phoenix. Timotea completed 150 safe trips, giving her 150 chances to win the scholarship. When asked what she thought about the scholarship she said "it's a good opportunity because there is a chance that you might get this scholarship. Also, if you do not get the scholarship it is a really good app to use because it encourages you not to use your phone while driving." Timotea says she will continue to use the app and plans on applying her winnings towards her education at Wesleyan.

Because of the overwhelming response to the scholarship, Attorney Shapiro is offering another scholarship contest starting immediately. The next contest will be open to high school students and college or trade school students whose home address is located in the greater Phoenix area. In addition, the scholarship will be open to any non-resident students who attend college or trade schools within the Phoenix area. To enter, students need to visit www.shapiroscholarship.com and download the Motovate app. Every time the registrant completes a safe drive, they will get a chance to win another $5000 scholarship. Students who have previously registered will automatically be registered for the next contest. Their safe trips will start to accumulate right away.

"It has been extremely exciting and rewarding to work with David Shapiro on this safe driving scholarship. His commitment to public safety and distracted driving prevention is unparalleled," said Jim Ramirez, CEO and founder of the Motovate app. "What's equally rewarding is seeing young people getting involved and raising awareness by being safer drivers. There was only one scholarship winner, but in a way, all the students involved are winners because of their commitment to social responsibility and making the roads safer for everyone."
