Mr. Witcoff began his career enlisting at age 17 in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1943. Deciding to enter the Navy due to their reputation of teaching a trade to their sailors, he was trained to become a radar electronics technician while completing his active duty. During his time in the military, he served on the USS Guam (CB-2) during the invasion of Okinawa, Japan, in 1945 and earned his honorable discharge in 1946. With a plethora of experience to his credit, he subsequently attended the University of Maryland on the G.I. Bill and obtained a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1949. From there, Mr. Witcoff served the U.S. Patent Office with the U.S. Department of Commerce as a patent examiner in electronic computer inventions from 1949 to 1953.
Becoming interested in patent law during his tenure with the U.S. Patent Office, Mr. Witcoff desired to not only work with technology, but with people as well. Attending night school, he subsequently graduated from the George Washington University School of Law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1953, was inducted into the Order of the Coif, and eventually worked as a patent lawyer with Bell Telephone Laboratories for the following two years. Soon thereafter, he was hired as a partner at Bair, Freeman & Molinare from 1955 to 1969, Allegretti, Newitt, Witcoff & McAndrews from 1970 to 1988, and Allegretti & Witcoff Ltd. from 1988 to 1995. From 1995 until his retirement in 2010, Mr. Witcoff was a partner of Banner & Witcoff Ltd. in Chicago, IL.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Witcoff previously excelled as the engineering vice president and a director of the Art Specialty Company in Chicago from 1967 to 1984, having also been the vice president of the Caspian Fur Trading Company in New York City and the co-founder of the Child Abuse Unit for Studies, Education and Services in Chicago, IL. Impressively, he briefly served a stint as a fire and police commissioner for Skokie, IL, from 1960 to 1963. To remain aware of developments in the field of law and his community, Mr. Witcoff maintains affiliation with the American Bar Association, the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago, B'nai B'rith, Tau Epsilon Phi and Phi Delta Phi.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Witcoff has garnered multiple honors and accolades. He was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World. Among the notable highlights of his career, however, Mr. Witcoff recalls serving his community as an ultimate career highpoint. In his trial work, there were several lawsuits that became quite important throughout the years. Establishing new law, the cases Mr. Witcoff had worked on were punctuated by clients who were eternally grateful for his aid.
