Robert James Wren found success as the manager and engineering director of vehicle and payload flight system safety at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Supported by decades of professional experience, Mr. Wren most recently found success as the manager and engineering director of vehicle and payload flight system safety at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston from 1995 and 2000. During his 38-year tenure with NASA, he served as the head of the experimental dynamics section, the manager of structural design and development, a member of the space shuttle payload safety review panel, and the alternate chairman of the space shuttle payload safety review panel. Between 1967 and 1969, he contributed as the manager of the test programs for the Apollo Spacecraft 2TV-1 CSM and the Apollo Lunar Module-2 Drop. Prior to joining NASA, Mr. Wren worked as a structural test engineer for General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas, from 1957 to 1962, having previously served as an associate engineer and a hydraulic engineer at the United States Bureau of Reclamation in Austin, Texas, between 1955 and 1957.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Wren was associated with the Seaholm Power Plant in Austin as a station clerk and the Central Power and Light Co. in Corpus Christi as an engineering aide from 1954 to 1955. Other professional endeavors to his credit include working as the director of the safety and mission assurance with the International Space Station Program Office at the United Space Alliance in Houston from 2000 and 2003. Additionally, Mr. Wren has been active as an independent consultant since 2003.

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Wren graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1956. Following this accomplishment, he earned a Master of Science in civil engineering from the Southern Methodist University in 1962. Soon thereafter Mr. Wren became a doctoral candidate at the University of Houston.

Civically, Mr. Wren has devoted his time as the president of Friendswood Little League baseball team from 1980 and 1983. He also served on the board of directors for the Bay Area YMCA in Houston between 1980 and 2007 and has been a member of the Rotary Club of Space Center since 1976. For his accomplishments in the field, he has been the recipient of the Sustained Superior Performance Award from NASA, the Outstanding Service Award from NASA and a Personal Letter of Commendation from NASA, among other accolades. Outside of work, Mr. Wren enjoys snow and water skiing, running, scuba diving, tennis, and sailing in his spare time.
