Dr. Abdelsamad is a former professor of finance and dean in the College of Business at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Texas. Joining the faculty in 1991 and teaching financial management courses, he also conducted research on capital budgeting, Islamic banks and bank stress tests. Prior to his tenure at Texas A&M, Dr. Abdelsamad was a professor and dean of the College of Business and Industry at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He was also an assistant professor, professor of finance and associate dean of graduate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He began his tenure in academia in 1968 and served for 51 years.
A consultant in his field for many years, Dr. Abdelsamad also devoted more than 30 years as the editor-in-chief of the Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) journal between 1985 and 2017. He has notably been published as a co-author in the journal three times between 2014 and 2017. He has many articles and a book on capita budgeting over his career.
Dr. Abdelsamad graduated from Cairo University with a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting in 1961. He then attended George Washington University, where he earned a Master of Business Administration in 1965 and a Doctor of Business Administration in finance in 1970.
A member of several professional organizations, Dr. Abdelsamad was president of the SAM from 1983 to 1986 and again from 1997 to 2017, and chaired the annual conferences from 1997 to 2017. The organization recognized him with a Phil Carroll Advancement of Management Award in Finance in 1989, Management Excellence Award in 1991 and 1998, President Excellence Award in 1996 and The Taylor Key Award (AACSB) in 2000. Dr. Abdelsamad has also been active with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business as a member and chairman of initial accreditation and the five-year continuous accreditation reviews for many universities. In 2018, he was a member of the regional accreditation team of Middle States Commission on Higher Education for American University in Cairo, Egypt. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been featured in dozens of editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
