Devoting nearly 70 years to her professions, Dr. Brame is best known as a hypnotherapist and artist in California. Practicing hypnotherapy in Mission Viejo, California since 1986, she has been in the field for 41 years. She has also been the president of her art school, now named Visual Arts Studio & Art School, in Mission Viejo since 1978.
First entering the art profession in 1948 as a hand painted tie artist in Los Angeles, California, she worked for Windsor Tie Company, painting specialty ties for celebrities and demonstrating the painting process in various store windows throughout the area. In 1949 Dr. Brame returned to her home city, Indianapolis, Indiana, to work as a color consultant for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, and in 1953 moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to be a sales representative and color consultant for Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Albuquerque. Shortly after, Dr. Brame left that position to open a sign shop, Signs by Marillyn.
In January, 1955 Dr. Brame applied to Sandia Corporation for a job as an illustrator. At that time only men were being hired for the illustration department but she was offered a position she accepted as a typist in the reclamation department. After illustrating successful bid offers with drawings of equipment that would not previously sell, she was transferred to a position as a schematic draftsman in the engineering department. In 1957 Dr. Brame was hired by the Martin Company in Orlando, Florida, as an electro-mechanical designer, and worked with an engineering design group, on several projects, LaCrosse, Bullpup and Pershing missiles, receiving a "State of the Art" commendation from Army Ordnance for solutions to problems with dissimilar metals and other materials. She was the only female engineering employee in the Martin Company at the time, eventually being promoted to "Lead Man", supervising a design group of 5 men. In 1965 Dr. Brame left the Martin Company to open a commercial art studio and school, "The Arts", providing art classes to students and supplying advertising, graphics, signs, etc. to various businesses in the area. During this time she also taught commercial art classes for Orlando Junior College.
Desiring to return to California, she secured a position as a technical illustrator with General Instrument Corporation in Hawthorne, California, a manufacturer of drum and disc memories for computers, was promoted to Technical Publications Supervisor, and worked on manuals, proposals and advertising materials, including a manual for the drum memory installed in Air Force One. Dr. Brame left this position to accept a position as Technical Publication Manager for Archive Corporation in Santa Ana, California, supplying operation manuals and advertising for streaming tape memories. During this time she also developed a notation system for folk dance, MS Method, and published two books about the notation, "Folk Dancing is for Everybody" and "23 Israeli Dances". Archive Corporation was sold and she opened an advertising agency, Camart Design, supplying advertising for a variety of businesses, with the major client being Apple Computer, for whom she developed and documented the procedures for the automated and robotized assembly lines for printer keyboards. During this time Dr. Brame became interested in hypnotherapy, became certified, began a part time practice and acquired her Ph.D. in that discipline. She also taught classes for Orange Coast College in publication design and produced workshops about color and hypnosis for stress management. In 2004 she changed the company name to Visual Arts Studio & Art School, now teaching art to adults and children six up, and opened her current hypnotherapy practice, also called Visual Arts, working with clients who need help for smoking, weight, stress and pain management all the way to performance enhancement and alien abduction. She has written and published several more books including two hypnotherapy texts, "Innovative Imagery" in 1996, "Changing Your Mood" in 1997 and a cookbook, "Lemon and Lime Scented Herbs" in 1994. A new textbook, "Basic Production Concepts for the Working and Beginning Artist", has just been completed and is ready for publishing.
Dr. Brame is a former board of directors member for the Orange County Chapter of the American Board of Hypnotherapy, was president and newsletter editor for the Society for Technical Communication, was a founding member of the Lake Forest II Showboaters community theater and was president of Orange County Fine Arts. She is currently a member of The Activities Committee of Mission Viejo and Chairman of the Mission Viejo Cultural Arts Committee.
Dr. Brame was included in the City of Mission Viejo's Wall of Recognition for Community Service in 2016. She has been named to the International Biographical Roll of Honor for Distinguished Service to the Art, Education, Communication and Engineering Professions, the Dictionary of International Biography, the Two Thousand Notable American Women, the U. S. Register of American Writers and more than 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in California.
Dr. Brame was a student of Meinzinger Art School in Detroit, Michigan, Taflinger School of Art in Indianapolis, Indiana, Orlando Junior College, Orlando, Florida, University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and El Camino College in Torrance, California. She received a Doctor of Philosophy in Hypnotherapy from the American Institute of Hypnotherapy in 1989 and is a certified hypnotherapist.
