A licensed private investigator in from 1982 – 2002, Fay Faron founded the Rat Dog Dick Detective Agency in San Francisco, California. She was a member of the National Association of Bunco Investigators, Professionals Against Confidence Crimes and Sisters in Crime, as well as a frequent speaker before the S.F. Commonwealth Club, Book Passages Mystery Writers Conference, the National Association of Investigative Specialists, S.F. District Attorneys Conference, AARP and various Rotary and Lions clubs.

Ms. Faron has been profiled in Vanity Fair, U.S.A. Today, Money Magazine, Entrepreneur, and Newsweek as well as multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. She has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show (three times), Dateline, Good Morning America and Larry King Live and authored three books, "A Nasty Bit of Business," "Rip-off," and "Missing Persons." Her advice column, "Ask Rat Dog," was syndicated by King Features in 1992 and ran for over a decade in up to 60 newspapers including the Dallas Morning News, the Chicago Sun Times, the San Jose Mercury News and the Denver Post.

Faron's role in busting a ring of sweetheart scammers was the subject of Edgar award-winning Jack Olsen's true crime, "Hastened to the Grave." Taking on the cause of financial elder abuse, she co-founded the nonprofit, ElderAngels, (1992-2019) and testified before the California State Legislature, helping to upgrade financial elder abuse from a misdemeanor to a felony.

Faron attended Glendale Community College from 1967 – 1968, Arizona State University from 1968 – 1971, and University of Arizona from 1971 – 1972. As a serial entrepreneur, Faron has been her own boss since establishing Mongramation (1976-1980). Other entrepreneurial endeavors include The Rat Dog Dick Detective Agency (1982-2001); Tax Exempt Productions (1980-1982); Creighton-Morgan Publishing (1982-1986); Office in the City (1983-1986); Big Easy Tinseltown Tours (2004-2005); and Market2Editors.com (2002-2016).

Since moving to New Orleans in 2001, Faron has been using her investigative skills for the betterment of her Algiers Point community. As a community activist she is credited for saving the Canal Street ferry, honored by the City Council in 2012 with Resolution B-12-347 naming her, "Ferrygodmother of New Orleans." She was designated "Outstanding Neighbor of 2017" by the Algiers Point Association and received special achievement awards from the Friends of the Cabildo in 2006 & 2008.

Faron served on the Louisiana Toll Task Force (2008). She is board president of the Friends of the Ferry (2006-present) and the Ferry Foundation (2007-present). She is on the executive board of the Algiers Economic Development Foundation (2007-present); an advisory board member of the Algiers Point Association (2014-present); and serves on the Old Algiers Leadership Council (2017-present.)
