An accomplished listee, Ms. Coleman celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Initially obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in art history and history from Elmira College in 1963, Ms. Coleman concluded her studies at the University of Delaware, completing the Early American Furniture and Decorative Arts Program. Beginning her career at the Newark Museum as an assistant curator of decorative arts and an associate curator, she later worked with the Brooklyn Museum as assistant curator of decorative arts, an associate curator of decorative arts, costumes and textiles and the curator of costumes and textiles between 1969 and 1991. Ms. Coleman later excelled as the curator of textiles and costumes at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston from 1991 to 1998 and for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston from 1998 to 2003.

Largely self-educated, Ms. Coleman celebrates a career punctuated by accomplishments, such as the founding of the Costume Society of America in 1974. A successful writer, she has published several written works on doll collecting, including "Inside Porcelain Doll Heads," "The Collector's Encyclopedia of Dolls," "The Collector's Book of Doll Clothes" and "The Collector's Encyclopedia of Doll Clothes." Ms. Coleman further accepted the United Federation of Doll Clubs Award for Education Endeavors in 2009 and an Award for Meritorious Service in 2017.

Among other published works, Ms. Coleman also wrote "The Opulant Era" in 1989, which earned her the Costume Society of America Award. She was recognized as a fellow of the Costume Society of America in 1991 as well as a Greens Honor Professor with Texas Christian University in 1995. Honored with the Elmira College Award for Alumni Achievement in 2013, Ms. Coleman has been notably affiliated with the United Federation of Doll Clubs, the International Council Museum, the Textile Society of America and the Costume Society of America, often serving these organizations in administrative positions.

Since 1975, Ms. Coleman has found success as a consultant for various museums and historical societies. She also held the post of adjunct professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1990 and Rice University from 1994 to 1995. Unmatched in her professional expertise, she has reviewed grants for the National Endowment for the Arts various times throughout her career. A consultant for the esteemed J. Paul Getty Museum in 1992, Ms. Coleman was selected for inclusion in the 20th edition of Who's Who of American Women.
