With more than 30 years of experience in chemistry to his credit, Mr. McBride has become an authority in his industry. His career began at the G. Frederick Smith Chemical Company, Inc., as a chemist from 1963 to 1968, and later a chief chemist from 1968 until his retirement in 1997. Mr. McBride married his wife Shirlee Ann McBride in 1961 and has two children, Michael and Nancy Jean. In his spare time, he enjoys studying astronomy, golfing, listening to music, traveling and reading.
Prior to becoming an esteemed chemist, Mr. McBride pursued higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Iowa State University in 1963. During his studies, he was mentored by Professor G. Frederick Smith from the University of Illinois and Dr. Harvey Diehl at Iowa State University. Mr. McBride held these two chemists in high regard and considered it an honor to work with them throughout his academic career. He is also proud to have edited a book written by Dr. Alfred Schilt titled Perchloric Acid on Perchlorates.
Mr. McBride has contributed to a number of published works. He served as an editor to the second and third editions of "The Iron Reagents" in 1965 and 1980, respectively, and the second edition of "The Copper Regents" in 1972. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Mr. McBride remains informed of the advancements and changes in his industry through relevant organizations. Currently, he sits on the committee on analytical reagents of the American Chemical Society and maintains affiliation with the Columbus Astronomical Society. He was also able to work with and observe the members of the Midwestern Universities Analytical Chemistry Conference early on in his career. In light of his many contributions to his field, Mr. McBride was featured in the 24th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
