After immigrating to the United States in 1969 at the age of three, Mr. Acosta became accustomed to working with buildings under the tutelage of his father, who had found success as a superintendent. At 18, he accepted the role of a chief engineer with the Roger Williams Hotel, with which he affiliated for 12 years. Following this appointment, he subsequently assisting in the building of the Metro Hotel, before serving as an administrator for Food First for six months. Throughout his career, Mr. Acosta garnered additional expertise in engineering working for Millennium Broadway Hotel and the St. Mortiz Hotel, which later became the Hudson Hotel.
For the last 19 years, Mr. Acosta has served as the director of engineering for the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his work in engineering and education, he has created art since he was very young. In 2005, he was honored to submit art to the Duchess County Arts Fair, at which he won the highest award possible. Two years later, Mr. Acosta participated in the ICA Fair, where the World Bank, whose representatives were in attendance, promptly purchased all of his paintings.
Mr. Acosta earned a diploma from Touro College in 2009 and remains aware of changes in the arts through his affiliations with the Putnam Arts Council, the Howland Cultural Center, the Dutchess County Arts Council, CUE Art Foundation, the Barrett Art Center, and Artist Space in New York City. Since 2013, he has also contributed his time and resources to the National Journalists Association of Cuba in Exile as a delegate. Though his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of becoming a member of Arts-Sciences-Lettres in 2010, receiving accolades through the Union City Museum of Art, and being named the 2014 winner of the Latino Show Magazine. Mr. Acosta has also been awarded by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and the Mayor Arequipa Peru Exhibition at the University of San Augustine.
Since the mid-2000s, Mr. Acosta has had his work featured in more than 500 collections at the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery, the Woodstock Artist Association Museum, the Union City Hall Gallery, Putnam Arts Council, the Art & Book Expo at Jose Marti Academy, UBS Bank Headquarters, and many more. In 2010, he was included in "Antologia de Pintores Hispano-Americanos," where his painting "Celebration" is featured on the cover. In addition to his professional excellence, Mr. Acosta is the proud husband of Orsola, and a devoted father to two children.
