Possessed of an overriding need to help people, Ms. Johnson celebrates over 40 years of compassion in medicine. She began her professional journey as a student nurse, learning pediatric and intensive care at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, where she earned a diploma in 1976. She departed in 1977, and affiliated as a telemetry nurse, charged with monitoring patients, at the Baptist Medical Center of Kansas City for two years. She remained with the Baptist Medical Center for most of her career, rising to the position of head nurse by 1989 – her responsibilities grew to include intensive care, pregnancy care and recovery. For her sterling performance, Ms. Johnson continued to be promoted, eventually garnering a laudable reputation as the director of nursing in 1999 – by this time, she was also the director of clinical operations, where her aegis encompassed critical care, women, oncology and orthopedic services.
Departing from the medical center in 2006, Ms. Johnson briefly affiliated with the Menorah Medical Center as the chief nursing officer, and held a similar role with Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Most recently, she held this position at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, California, where under her leadership, the hospital achieved Pathways to Excellence, a certification for nursing.
Throughout her career, Ms. Johnson accrued multiple degrees pertinent to her profession, including a Bachelor of Arts in nursing from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1977, a Masters of Arts in health service management from Webster University in 1992, and a Master of Science in nursing from Research College of Nursing in 2012.
In recognition of her competent and compassionate care, Ms. Johnson has been the recipient of several honors and awards from various organizations, including the Alpha Phi Alpha Women of the Year award, Southern Christian Leadership Conference Award and Delta Sorority Women of Courage Award. To keep abreast of developments in the field, she has maintained membership in organizations pertinent to her profession, such as the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the Sigma Theta Tau international Honor Society of Nursing and the American College of Healthcare executives. Ms. Johnson has been married to her husband, Stanley, for more than 40 years and together they share four children, who have gifted them with three beautiful grandchildren.
