Flooding Increases Need For Safety Tools in Autos

With the increased news of Spring flooding, more people are stocking up on safety tools that could save their lives when in their cars.

/24-7PressRelease/ - KANSAS CITY, MO, April 13, 2008 - Safety and Security Source sells an Auto Escape Tool that has been popular with news of spring flooding and heavy rains. According to Tracey Hawkins, owner of the safety and security product online retail website, "People watch the news and wonder what they will do in certain situations if they are in an accident."

The Auto Escape Tool is designed to help a person get out of their car in an emergency situation. There is an end specifically designed to shatter glass, even under water (some coated windows cannot be guaranteed). The seatbelt cutter works if trapped. The tool is a flashlight, too. Hawkins states that like all safety products, the tool has to be accessible.

"You cannot store it in the glove box or trunk. It needs to be under your driver's seat, in the console area or door pocket. It is also bright yellow and visible."

Hawkins states that people typically buy one for every car in the family. "It's something that you don't think about until you are in a potentially dangerous situation, driving over a bridge, a close call with going off the road, a news story that someone's car has been submerged in a body of water. Then you wonder if such a device exists, then when you see one for sale, you buy one for everyone that you know who owns a car!" The $12.95 price tag makes it easy to buy more than one. Hawkins was a resource on the Discovery Channel's Myth Busters television program testing the tools. Seeing how they worked made her feel better about selling them.

"I had a client say that he could have used one when he tried to help free a person from a wrecked vehicle on the side of the road. There was no water involved, they just couldn't find anything to break the window. Another client had a friend trapped by his seatbelt who burned to death ater an accident. He finds it hard to put his seatbelt on now, although he knows he should. This tool takes that excuse away."
