Dr. Schneider served in the US Navy and U.S. Naval Reserve for 42 Years, becoming an orthopaedic surgeon at three U.S. Naval Hospitals, teaching orthopaedic residents, initiating two microsurgical laboratories for teaching microsurgical techniques, and for vascular research. He initiated the development of freeze-dried grafts of blood vessels for surgical implantation, which do not cause an immune rejection. His patent – US 7,294,144 B1 – is entitled "Preserved Implantable Vessel Derived From A Human Umbilical Cord Or Placenta". The grafts are stored in vacuum containers at room temperature.
A graduate of Drake University and the University of Iowa, Dr. Schneider holds a Bachelor of Arts, and an MD. He has had affiliations with the California Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American Association of Tissue Banks, and International Microsurgical Society.
