"Getting girls curious about math and science early gives them a base layer to build upon. We are focused on helping these girls become the makers of our future." - Dr. Laine Powell, TSG Exec. Dir.

ORLANDO, FL, October 31, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tech Sassy Girlz (TSG) celebrates National STEM Day on November 8 with its annual fundraiser Tea & Bytes to be held at the Orlando Science Center, in downtown Orlando. Awareness for this national day was meant to encourage youth to explore and pursue their interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math – which shapes our everyday lives.

Founded in 2012, Tech Sassy Girlz was created to cultivate young girls to aspire as innovators, makers, entrepreneurs and pioneers of the future. The nonprofit organization works to empower middle and high school girls to pursue STEM fields through college preparation, career readiness, mentoring and entrepreneurship.

"Tea and Bytes is our annual signature fundraising event to build corporate support and awareness for our mission. More and more careers will require digital and technical skills, and getting girls curious about math and science at a young age gives them a base layer to build upon. We are focused on helping these girls become the makers of our future," says Laine Powell, Ed.D., Tech Sassy Girlz Founder and Executive Director.

Tea and Bytes will be held from 11am – 1pm. City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will share his thoughts on STEM education and the future of workforce development. Additionally, City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer proclaimed Tech Sassy Girlz Day on October 11 and has awarded TSG with the Mayor's Matching Grant. Sara Sidner, award winning CNN correspondent, will serve as emcee and Michelle Jones (@Vinylinist) from Violectric, Inc. is back again this year, providing live music. A silent auction and lunch will be provided. Tickets are available at $150 per person (early bird) and corporate tables of 10 at $1,750. Seating is limited – so advanced registration is required. Since its inception, TSG has touched the lives of more than 800 middle and high school "girlz" and awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships. Its programs include afterschool programs such as Tech Sassy Girlz Code for middle school students, Pearls in Tech for high school students, annual Hack-A-Thons, an annual career development conference which attracted more than 500 girls this year, summer camps and the chance to attend Tech Treks to various STEM-related companies throughout the year. TSG has successfully placed its Pearls in Tech (an afterschool program developed in partnership with Skillsoft) students in 6 week paid internships in the City of Orlando's IT Department and AceApplications, LLC, with the goal to equip high school girls with 21st century digital and technical skills.
