As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Lewis was distinguished for integrating grassroots research activism with social science research rigor to enrich community programming while advocating for policy reform. Her early academic career included notable research faculty appointments at Princeton University and Columbia Mailman School of Public Health. Later her objectives expanded--to bring evidence-based, culturally competent programs and capacity to nonprofit human services. Especially meaningful for Dr. Lewis was "the opportunity to push the boundaries and perimeters of my degree in social and personality psychology and spend most of my career in broader spheres of public health pushing policy and reform".

With her academic credentials starting with her B.A. summa cum laude in Psychology from Fordham University, M.A. in Psychology Hunter College, Master of Philosophy Graduate Center of the City University of New York and a Doctorate in Social and Personality Psychology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York she served on leadership teams for several nonprofits over decades as Deputy Executive Director of Planning for Project Hospitality, Assistant VP of Research for Women In Need Inc., Chief of Research and Support for Urban Resource Institute, and Senior Director of National Program Development for Children's Health Fund—in sum leading inner city nonprofits that targeted gender violence, homelessness, substance abuse, mental health, disparities in health care or domestic violence and writing grants to bolster programming. Dr. Lewis was appointed by the Commissioner of the NYC Dept of Health and Mental Hygiene in 2006 to a 4 year tenure on the citywide HIV Prevention Planning Group and served as chair of the Behavioral Science Implementation and Evaluation Committee at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene overseeing evidence based programming for HIV prevention planning and providing technical support to the women and children's workgroup. She served as an advocate on the Mount Sinai Sexual Assault Violence Intervention Program, NYC Task Force of Domestic Violence Residential Providers, NYC AIDS Housing Network, NYC HIV/AIDS Nutrition Services, and Policy Committee of the National Women's AIDS Coalition. She has presented at the CDC, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, NYS Dept of Health AIDS Institute, The Women's HIV Collaborative of NY, The National HIV Prevention Conference, American Psychological Association Annual Conferences, the American Public health Association, the National Coalition against Domestic Violence, government forums (NYC DOH Bureau of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and has served as a reviewer for several United States Department of Health and Human Services (SAMSHA) grants. While Dr. Lewis was assisting in research at New York State Psychiatric Institute where she completed her dissertation on an NIMH grant studying stress and hardiness in children in the community, she was appointed adjunct assistant professor moonlighting as an educator at both John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Masters in Forensic Psychology and at Fordham University, Division of Social Sciences.

Specifically while Research faculty at Princeton University, She directed a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Minority Funding Youth Health Risk-Reduction project, focusing on teen violence, substance abuse, HIV, STDs, and teen pregnancy. While Faculty Research Scientist in Sociomedical Sciences at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, Dr. Lewis contributed her expertise to several epidemiological Harlem Health studies. Other achievements included grant funded positions as Senior Evaluator at Beth Israel's Chemical Dependency Unit on a multi site prevention grant for high-risk inner city women, as Research Scientist at NYU AIDS Center working on a vaccine feasibility study, and as Principal Research Scientist on several National Development and Research Institute criminal justice agency research grants and publishing on crack/cocaine, community health, stress/coping and family trauma, mental health, and domestic violence over her career. A prolific writer and presenter Dr. Lewis' ground-up, inclusive feminist research perspective can be found in several International Journals most notably Violence against Women (Sage Publications).

Currently she has returned full-time to theatre arts working in NY, MA, and CA, a professional passion that she has managed to sustain over a lifetime; a narrative we hope to learn more of.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Lewis has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
