JACKSONVILLE, FL, November 15, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present George Winterling with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Winterling celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Winterling is renowned as a meteorologist and a broadcaster with more than 50 years of accomplishment in his field. Interested in science and mathematics as a child, he enlisted in the United States Air Force hoping to become a pilot. When he was told he would have to apply for cadet school in order to do so, and to find another occupation in the interim, he enrolled in weather observer school at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois. Mr. Winterling served at weather stations in Georgia, and attended Oklahoma State University before being stationed in Alaska and Japan, providing weather forecasts to planes crossing the Pacific in an era before satellite imaging.

Following his discharge from the United States Air Force in 1953, Mr. Winterling attended Jacksonville University and graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in meteorology in 1957. From 1957 to 1962, he worked as a forecaster for the National Weather Service based in Jacksonville. He later found success as the chief meteorologist for Station WJXT-TV, in Jacksonville from 1962 to 2009. After his retirement in 2009, Mr. Winterling remained with the aforementioned station as a meteorologist emeritus until 2014.

Certified as a meteorologist and a consultant by the American Meteorological Society, Mr. Winterling served as an adjunct professor at Jacksonville University from 1975 to 1994. He is the author of "Chasing the Wind: Memories of a Pioneer TV Meteorologist," a 2018 memoir about his time as a broadcast weather forecaster. He is most proud of his 1978 development of a metric he called "humiture," a way to measure humidity by dew point. The National Weather Service would go on to rename this metric as the Heat Index and adopt it for use. He also pioneered time lapse photography of clouds in his weather reports and made time lapse radar movements of thunderstorms and hurricanes. Mr. Winterling is a fellow of the American Meteorological Society, and a Golden Chief in the Seminole Boosters.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, George Winterling has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
