Prior to spearheading her company, Ms. Nourse worked as a financial advisor at Dean Witter Reynolds from 1986 to 1993, and Prudential Securities from 1993 to 2000. Subsequently, she flourished as the vice president of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, LLC from 2000 to 2012. A certified financial planner since 2003, Ms. Nourse previously obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Oberlin College in 1976.
A frequent guest speaker and contributor on women and finance, Ms. Nourse has been recognized as a trailblazer by others in her field. A guest commentator on CNBC's "Closing Bell" since 2013 and selected to be in a national ad campaign for Dean Witter in 1991, she is a member of AdviseHers, the Financial Planning Association and the EmpowHer Institute, for which she has been further active as an advisory board member since 2014. Moreover, Ms. Nourse has served as the president of the board of directors with the Association of African American Financial Advisors, a national organization dedicated to advancing and supporting African Americans in the financial planning industry, in 2019.
Ms. Nourse attributes her success to her support system, having had excellent mentors that have proven to be key in the industry for women, and especially for people of color. She also credits her hard work and relentless approach in the pursuit of her goals. Ms. Nourse's understanding of human psychology has also played a major role in forming relationships and trust for clients to work with her.
Ms. Nourse's fascination for her industry came with understanding the role of a stockbroker. Realizing that you can learn to invest money and make a living without having to do physical labor, she became intrigued and began booking many public speaking events and, later, enrolling people into retirement plans. The field has also allowed her to utilize her degree in psychology, as it became useful when dealing with her investors.
Designated a Five Star Wealth Manager since 2014, Ms. Nourse was recognized among Investment News's Women to Watch in 2017. She was additionally honored by the Los Angeles Business Journal as one of Los Angeles' Most Influential Wealth Managers in 2018. Looking toward the future, Ms. Nourse plans to continue to expand her business and to build a team of all-women financial planners.
