He is also the faculty founder and director of the Fowler Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit, whose mission is to advance world where business can excel, people can thrive, and nature can flourish.

Renowned for his theoretical articulation of appreciative inquiry, which helped create the field of positive psychology and positive organization development, Dr. Cooperrider's approach is being practiced throughout the corporate world, the world of public service, economics, education, faith, philanthropy and social science scholarship. This development notably led to the growth and development of the United Nations Global Compact, with over 12,000 corporations advancing the 17 global goals for planet earth. Dr. Cooperrider serves as an advisor to numerous prominent leaders in business and society, as well as with leading corporations, including Apple Inc., Cleveland Clinic, Johnson & Johnson Inc., VitaMix, Walmart, United Way and the US Navy, as well as hundreds of international private voluntary organizations. David has worked with prominent leaders in business and society, including projects with five Presidents and/or Nobel Laureates such as William Jefferson Clinton, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Kofi Annan and Jimmy Carter.

A prolific scholar, Dr. Cooperrider has published 25 books and more than 100 articles and book chapters. Some of his books include "Appreciative Inquiry: A Positive Revolution in Change" with Diana Whitney, "The Organization Dimensions of Global Change" with Jane Dutton and "Organizational Courage and Executive Wisdom" with Suresh Srivastva. He is a former co-editor for the Journal of Corporate Citizenship and the current co-editor of the academic four-volume research series on "Advances for Appreciative Inquiry."

Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Cooperrider received a Bachelor of Arts at Augustana College in 1976. He soon after acquired a Master of Science at George Williams College in 1983 and a Doctor of Philosophy at Case Western Reserve University in 1986.

An elected fellow of the World Business Academy Dr. Cooperrider also served as the Academy of Management's President of the Organization Development Division. Further, he is a founding board member of the Taos Institute, a non-profit association of scholars and practitioners dedicated to exploring social constructionist ideas, and is a founding board member of the International Positive Psychology Association, which consists of a global community for positive psychology researchers and practitioners that now includes members from across 70 countries.

In 2017, Dr. Cooperrider was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in the field of Organization Development by the OD Network. He previously received a Distinguished Researcher Award from Case Western Reserve University in 2013. Among other recognitions, he was named to the Nation's Top Thought Leaders by Trust Across America in 2015, and was honored with an Aspen Institute Faculty Pioneer of Impact Award on Business and Society in 2006.

One of the greatest honors of Dr. Cooperrider's career, however, was when Champlain College opened the doors to its newest academic center in 2014 at the Robert P. Stiller School of Business, naming it the David L. Cooperrider Center for Appreciative Inquiry. Serving as an honorary chair, this global hub for Appreciative Inquiry offers a full range of educational programs, research, AI certification and custom consulting services for companies, organizations and whole industries.
