Renowned Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Joins Access Physicians Telemedicine Group

Maternal-fetal telemedicine allows high-risk patients with complex care needs to receive safe, high-quality care in their own communities

"We have a lot to do as a country to improve maternal outcomes. Telemedicine can bring much-needed timely access to maternal-fetal medicine subspecialty care to more women to save lives."

DALLAS, TX, January 20, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Access Physicians, a leading physician-owned telemedicine group, is expanding its service line offerings with expert, high-quality maternal-fetal telemedicine. This innovative program is particularly important as more health care professionals and hospitals focus on ways to improve maternal health outcomes.

Sina Haeri, MD, MHSA, FACOG is leading implementation of the organization's maternal-fetal telemedicine program, bringing an unparalleled expertise and experience to the role as well as commitment to ensuring every patient can receive the highest level of care and service in their local hospital, physician practice and community.

"We have a lot to do as a country to improve maternal outcomes," said Haeri. "Telemedicine can bring much-needed timely access to maternal-fetal medicine subspecialty care to more women to save lives and reduce long-term morbidity. I've long admired Access Physicians' approach to telemedicine that prioritizes innovation in the service of patient care and experience. I'm honored to join the team and lead the implementation and widespread adoption of maternal-fetal telemedicine."

With maternal-fetal telemedicine support and consultation, women with conditions that make their pregnancies high-risk, such as hypertension, diabetes or obesity, can receive needed, expert specialty care locally in the comfort of their obstetricians/gynecologists' office without the added burden of regular travel to large, tertiary urban hospitals. Fetuses with complex needs, such as cleft lip/palate or heart defects, can be identified earlier through maternal-fetal telemedicine, which gives families and health care professionals time and information to prepare and bring together post-delivery resources, such as pediatric and surgical care.

"Keeping patients in their local communities with the highest level of specialty care is a guiding principle for Access Physicians," said Eduardo Vadia, MD, co-founder and managing partner, Access Physicians. "I can't think of any circumstances where it's more important to be close-to-home than for a family preparing for a birth, particularly when that birth might be risky for the mom or involves a fetus with complex medical needs."

The Access Physicians' outpatient maternal-fetal telemedicine program has reduced transfers of women with high-risk pregnancies to other providers in large urban centers to 3-5 percent. Its inpatient program has helped hospitals reduce unnecessary transfers of labor and delivery patients by 30 percent.

Haeri joins Access Physicians from HCA Healthcare where he created a scalable maternal-fetal telemedicine model and led its national initiative. Haeri is board-certified in maternal-fetal medicine and obstetrics and gynecology and served as a surgeon in the U.S. army. In addition to his work with HCA, Haeri has served as a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and educator with Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine.

Access Physicians works with hospitals of all sizes across the country to build and sustain high-quality telemedicine programs, such as telepulmonary, telecardiology, and teleneurology. The company also has received exclusive endorsements, including being the first telemedicine company to be endorsed by a hospital association. The Texas Hospital Association, the second largest in the country representing 8 percent of U.S. hospitals, named Access Physicians as an endorsed partner for telemedicine needs in 2019, followed by the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals.
