John W. Berry Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Berry with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Berry celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Berry has accumulated more than 45 years of experience in both library science and academia, beginning as the head of microform services at the Indiana University library in Bloomington in 1972. Later working for Northern Illinois University and the University of Illinois, he eventually accepted the position of the director of development and special programs in Chicago between 1991 and 1996. Additionally, he excelled as the executive director for the American Library Association and the Library Administration and Management Association in Chicago during the mid-1980s. Today, Mr. Berry is active as an adjunct instructor in the school of information studies at Dominican University in River Forest, a position he has held since 2005.

In addition to his full-time commitments, Mr. Berry served as a library building consultant at Marist College Library in Poughkeepsie, New York, during 1987. He was also a member of the management and marketing standing committee of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions between 1997 and 2009. Inspired to become a writer as a result of his years in the field, he notably edited "Great Library Promotion Ideas III" in 1987 and co-edited "Great Library Promotion Ideas IV" in 1988. Likewise, Mr. Berry has also contributed to multiple articles published in various scholarly journals in his area of expertise.

Among his numerous civic and community activities, Mr. Berry has participated on the board of directors of the Friends of the Library in Elmira, NY. Affiliated with the American Library in Paris, he has maintained his involvement with the Ernest Hemingway Foundation as the chairman since 2008. A graduate of Indiana University, Mr. Berry has obtained a bachelor's degree in 1969, a Master of Arts in teaching in 1972 and a Master of Library Science in 1974.

To remain aware of developments in his field, Mr. Berry has found success as a member of the Association of Colleges and Research Libraries, the Library Administration and Management Association and the Society for Photographic Education. As a member of the American Library Association, he provided his time and resources as the 118th elected president from 2001 to 2003. Recognized as the Illinois Academic Librarian of the Year in 2009 and a Illinois Library Luminary in 2011, Mr. Berry is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in the 45th through 50th editions of Who's Who in America.
