Dr. Harold Fromm has distinguished himself as a visiting professor of English at the University of Arizona since 1998.

Having accrued nearly 60 years of inimitable expertise as a humanities scholar, Dr. Fromm has distinguished himself as a visiting professor of English at the University of Arizona since 1998. He began teaching English at Oakland University, after which he held faculty appointments at Wayne State University in Detroit, Brooklyn College in New York, Indiana University Northwest in Gary and the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Fromm has also maintained a longstanding relationship as a member of the University of Arizona's Institute of the Environment.

Widely published, Dr. Fromm authored four books, including "The Nature of Being Human: From Environmentalism to Consciousness" in 2009 through Johns Hopkins University Press. He also served as the co-editor of the 1996 book "The Ecocriticism Reader: Landmarks in Literary Ecology" through the University of Georgia Press. Dr. Fromm has also authored or co-authored several scholarly articles on ecology, science, evolution and consciousness in such publications as The Evolutionary Review and Philosophy and Literature. Moreover, he has written a number of literary and critical essays, and has been a regular contributor to The Hudson Review, a quarterly journal of literature and the arts, for more than 25 years.

Born in New York City, Dr. Fromm attended college locally, acquiring a Bachelor of Arts at the City University of New York in 1954 and a Master of Arts at Columbia University in 1956. He later attained a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin in 1962. To remain aware of developments in his field, Dr. Fromm has been actively involved as a member of the Modern Language Association and the Association for the Study Literature and Environment and served on the advisory board of the Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment. He has been a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
