Dr. Catherine Yang is currently the vice president of academic affairs at California Northstate University, as well as professor for the College of Medicine.

A native of Hangzhou, China, Dr. Yang initially earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou. Moreover, she obtained a Master of Science from Tufts University in 1989 and a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry from Tufts University in 1993. Furthermore, Dr. Yang completed postdoctoral research specialty training at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Yang is currently the vice president of academic affairs at California Northstate University, as well as professor for the College of Medicine. At the start of her career, Dr. Yang was recognized as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School in 1995. Soon thereafter, she found success at Rowan University, where she served a tenure of over 20 years as a professor from 1995 to 2018 including a professor at its Cooper Medical School. Simultaneously, Dr. Yang has contributed to Rowan University as the chairperson for the department of chemistry & biochemistry, and the department of translational biomedical sciences since 2007. She was also the founder and the chief executive officer of DNJ Pharmaceutical Incorporated in 2011 where she led the incubate innovation on discovery of new drugs in the areas of type 2 diabetes, prostate cancer, leukemia and allergy vaccine. Dr. Yang published 68 peer reviewed journal articles, books and patents.
In addition to her primary responsibilities, Dr. Yang has excelled as the president of the Zhejiang University Education Foundation since 2018. Prior to this appointment, she held the title of vice president of American Zhu Kezhen Education Foundation, between 2008 and 2017. Dr. Yang also served as the program chair for American Chemical Society, South Jersey Chapter, between 1998-2001. Accepting several new drug patents in the biomedical field, Dr. Yang has been twice inducted to the Wall of Fame at Rowan University and was presented with both the Research Excellence Award and the Director Innovation Award.
To remain aware of developing trends in the field, Dr. Yang maintains affiliation with the American Chemical Society, American Cancer Research, Inc., American Association of Medical Colleges, etc. and the Harvard Macy Foundation. In light of her exceptional undertakings, she has been selected for inclusion in the eighth edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. Outside of work, Dr. Yang enjoys reading, traveling, history, playing piano, volleyball, and tennis in her spare time.
