Richard D. Rosen Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Rosen received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Yale University in 1962 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Harvard Law School in 1965.

Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Rosen commenced his professional career in the tax department of a regional accounting firm in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1970, he was recruited to found the Pittsburgh tax department of Grant Thornton, a national accounting firm. Several years later, he was promoted to Managing Partner of the office. In 1976, Baskin and Sears, a law firm with offices in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Washington, D.C., recruited Mr. Rosen to head its tax department. In 1978, Mr. Rosen formed his own law firm to continue providing intergenerational wealth transfer planning to his wealthy clientele and to engage in merger and acquisition consulting, oil and gas exploration and syndication and real estate development and syndication. In 1989, Mr. Rosen combined his legal practice with that of Cohen & Grigsby, P.C., then a small Pittsburgh law firm, becoming a shareholder and director of that firm. He has remained with Cohen & Grigsby, P.C. for the last 31 years while it has added an office in Naples, Florida, has grown to about 150 attorneys and has just agreed to affiliate with Denton's, the largest law firm in the world.

At Cohen & Grigsby, P.C., Mr. Rosen has been a member of the corporate and tax, estates and trusts, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, Florida real estate, venture capital and private equity groups. The areas in which he concentrates include financial planning and the structuring and implementation of creative intergenerational wealth transfer techniques, philanthropic planning, acquisitions and sales of privately owned businesses, Securities Act filings of controlling shareholders, Hart-Scott-Rodino issues arising in an estate planning context and Investment Advisers Act of 1940 issues.

Mr. Rosen has contributed articles to various professional journals, such as the Executive Report and The Tax Adviser, has been interviewed by publications, such as the Wall Street Journal, and on television, has lectured to various professional organizations, such as the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the Corporate Fiduciaries Association of Western Pennsylvania and has taught in the Grant Thornton national tax school. Mr. Rosen has been honored by being named in Best Lawyers in America, Pennsylvania Super Lawyers and close to 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in Finance and Industry and Who's Who in the World.

In addition to his accounting and legal careers, Mr. Rosen co-founded corporations in the fields of back office computer processing for banks, computer-assisted medical examinations and oil and gas exploration and production and was the co-owner of a corporation that acquired a brand of Scotch whiskey that had been marketed solely to royalty and heads of state.

Mr. Rosen has also been active in the philanthropic community. He has been a trustee of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation of Pittsburgh and has served on its Executive, Audit and Investment Committees (the latter as Chairman for 15 years), was the chairman of the professional advisory committee of the United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, is a member of the Patient Quality Care Committee of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian and Shadyside Hospitals, founded the Young Adult Division of Tri-State Israel Bonds, was a member of the Israel Bonds Prime Minister's Club and is a member of the Finance and Audit Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples.
