NILES, MI, March 03, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Walter Henry Hornberger Jr. with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Hornberger celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now retired, Mr. Hornberger is an award-winning engineer of 37 years who contributed for the last eight years of his career as the Director of Quality Assurance for Weil-McLain in the division of United Dominion Industries, in Michigan, City, Indiana. Renowned for his impeccable work, he was responsible for implementing ISO 9000 during his tenure with the organization. Weil-McLain has notably been a leading North American designer and manufacturer of hydronic comfort heating systems for residential, commercial and institutional buildings since 1881. Mr. Hornberger formerly worked for several different organizations, including Wells Electronics as a quality control manager, National Standard Company as a Quality Control Manager and Research Metallurgist, and International Harvester-Wisconsin Steel as a Melt Shop Metallurgist.

Employed at Rockwell International between 1973 and 1974, Mr. Hornberger joined the organization during a time when the company was expanding. He served as a Heat Treat Manager and Plant Metallurgist. During the short time that he was employed with the company, Mr. Hornberger learned a great deal about the field and performed beyond the scope of the activities pertaining to his metallurgic interests.

Coming of age in the south side of Chicago, Mr. Hornberger was surrounded by steel mills. Making the decision in high school to pursue a career in metallurgical engineering, he later attended Illinois Institute of Technology, from which he acquired a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering in 1964. He also became a Registered
Professional Engineer in the state of Michigan. While in school, Mr. Hornberger worked summers at several area steel mills including U.S. Steel and discovered that his grandfather, Herman Alexander Brassert, was also employed by the company as the superintendent of blast furnaces in the early 1960s. He felt immense pride in having followed in his forebear's footsteps without even realizing it.

Aligned with several industry-related organizations throughout his career, Mr. Hornberger is a member, past president and 1985 Engineer of the Year recipient of the National Society of Professional Engineers. He is also a member and former chairman of the Notre Dame chapter of the American Society for Metals International and a member and past president of the Blossomland chapter of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers. Other memberships to his credit include the Niles Optimist Club, Masons, Shriners and Moose. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Hornberger has been included in the 28th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
