A tenured educator who recently accepted the role of an associate dean in the school of business at Shenandoah University in 2018, Dr. Chen is an expert in ecological economics, international macroeconomics and dynamic optimization. She is likewise a professor of economics on campus who has notably served as the director of international relations and as an MBA program director. Originally hired in 2004 as an assistant professor, she has since successfully updated the curriculum, introduced simulcast video teleconferencing technology to the program, opened a branch campus for the MBA program in Northern Virginia, launched online courses and significantly increased enrollment. Furthermore, Dr. Chen was responsible for launching a global executive MBA program in Shanghai.
Leading a career of more than 25 years in the field of education, Dr. Chen held appointments at DePaul University in Chicago, Ming-Hsin Institute of Technology in Taiwan and the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater. Prior to moving to the U.S., she was the owner of her own private consulting businesses in Asia. In recent years, she founded LCF Consulting Services in 2014 here in the U.S. In addition to her full-time commitments, Dr. Chen continues to participate in international conferences and is frequently published in scholarly journals.
Dr. Chen has held leadership roles with numerous local organizations. Since 2014, she has volunteered, networked and served as an events' sponsor for the Julian C. Stanley Study of Exceptional Talent through the Johns Hopkins University city wide program. She formerly contributed for several years with the Loudoun County Public Schools on the superintendent's advisory committee for gifted education between 2012 and 2016, as a participant of the superintendent search between 2013 and 2014 and as a member of the Vision 20/20 Initiative's stakeholders' group between 2014 and 2015. To prepare for her illustrious career, Dr. Chen attended the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, where she received a Bachelor of Art, Master of Art and Doctor of Philosophy in economics.
Securing a grant from the National Security Council of Taiwan in 2000, Dr. Chen has also been recognized with several accolades during her career. Shenandoah University honored her twice, once in 2014 with an Outstanding Teaching Award and again in 2017 with a James R. and Mary R. Wilkins Appreciation Award for Outstanding Contributions to the University. Dr. Chen previously received a Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Teaching and Student Service by the National Society of Collegial Scholars in 2004.
