Hertzig, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. She subsequently became a research fellow of the New York University School of Medicine from 1964 to 1966. In 1977, Dr. Hertzig joined Cornell University Medical College as an associate professor of psychiatry and as an associate attending psychiatrist at the Cornell Medical Center, rising to the role of a professor in 1995. She remains an attending psychiatrist at the clinic.
Dr. Hertzig served as the interim vice-chairperson of child and adolescent psychiatry at the Weill Medical College at Cornell University from 2002 until 2009.
