LOS ANGELES, CA, April 15, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joining LA Protects Millions of Masks initiative Funstigators is making masks for non-medical personnel and donating masks to essential personnel in need as part of the buy-1-gift-1 program on their website.

A young American brand specialising in sparkly leggings for parties and festivals, Funstigators designs and manufactures everything in Los Angeles. As the coronavirus has spread, Cookie and Jesse were inspired by people around the country sewing handmade masks for healthcare workers facing shortages amid the pandemic.

According to Jesse, "It's bizarre, we've been making clothing for music festivals for 7 years and now we are sewing to help keep people alive. Having every citizen staying home as much as they can and wearing a mask in public is the best way we can combat this together. We want to make masks fashionable and fun!"

Across the country as people are staying safe at home many are dedicating their time and materials to making masks, joining Facebook groups like Mask Makers and Million Mask Challenge. With these people in mind, Funstigators developed a pattern that can be put on quickly and worn comfortably with a metal nose bridge for tight fit and a pocket for filtration.

The CDC is advising the use of cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus. This is specifically helpful to keep asymptomatic contagious people from transmitting it to others unknowingly. The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators, which are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders.

In addition to selling masks to fashionable and practical people alike, Funstigators is donating hundreds of masks to local nonprofits and healthcare facilities like Dallas Retirement Village, a 24/7 senior health care center with 350 residents and 325 employees. As Sue Lamb Foundation Development Director observed, "The elderly population is most vulnerable in contracting this virus. We are working hard to protect our residents and masks are key in helping us accomplish that goal."

Cookie observes "We had a stash of fun cotton prints so we started making masks featuring Snoopy, cupcakes, pineapples and Christmas trees. We're donating what we can, waiting for organisations to reach out through LA Protects."

LA Protects, a new partnership to organise the city's fashion and garment industry to make protective gear and other medical supplies for frontline workers was recently announced by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. The initial target for the initiative is the manufacturing of 5 million non-medical masks for people who need protection — grocery store workers, non-medical staff in hospitals, and others providing essential services during the COVID-19 crisis.

Joining LA Protects, Funstigators is excited to use its resources to help solve an immediate problem, while also offering people a way to express themselves and stay safe. Masks can be purchased at their website, with Funstigators matching purchases with donations to those in need, and also offering consumers the opportunity to directly donate their purchases to essential workers in need.

Funstigators instigates fun every day in every way. The fashion is all about you being exactly who you are. Funstigators designs and manufactures in Los Angeles.
