Having enjoyed more than 50 years of inimitable expertise in his field, Dr. Isogai has garnered a laudable reputation as a celebrated biochemist, researcher and educator. Born in Japan, he began his career with Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. in 1973 as a researcher, biotechnological research manager and senior research fellow. After contributing for more than three decades with the organization, he secured roles with Astellas Pharma Inc. and Reverse Proteomics Research Institute Company Ltd. between 1996 and 2012, and served as the principal scientist of genomics at Helix Research Institute, Inc. Presently, Dr. Isogai maintains involvement as a professor in the Translational Research Center at the Fukushima Medical University. During his illustrious career, he notably assisted in the creation of a new product through his genetic engineering research.
Prior to his current teaching appointment, Dr. Isogai excelled as a faculty member at the University of Tsukuba in the graduate school of life and environmental sciences and the University of Tokyo in the graduate school of pharmaceutical sciences. He also distinguished himself as a visiting scientist with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, which served as a very rewarding opportunity to meet and learn under many great scientists. The NICHD is notably one of the NIH in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in Bethesda, Maryland.
Inspired by his parents, both scientists in their own right, Dr. Isogai attended Nagoya University in Japan, where he attained a Bachelor of Science in 1973. He later attended the University of Tokyo, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 1991. Dr. Isogai's two children work in the scientific field as well.
Dr. Isogai's professional journey led him to join such professional organizations as the American Society of Human Genetics, the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, the American Chemical Society and, among others, the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is an elected fellow of the Japan Society for Bioscience. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in the first and second editions of Who's Who in Asia and several editions of Who's Who in the World between 1994 and 2016.
