Dr. Spinka has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of physics

ARGONNE, IL, May 21, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Harold Matthew Spinka Jr., PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Spinka celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Affiliated with the Argonne National Laboratory since 1970 as a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Spinka flourished with the aforementioned laboratory as a physicist and a senior physicist for 30 successful years. In 2017, Dr. Spinka began working as an associate for the lab. Throughout his career, one of his mentors was Aki Yokosawa, and three of his former colleagues are still currently working together. The Argonne National Laboratory is notably a science and engineering research national laboratory operated by the University of Chicago Argonne LLC for the U.S. Department of Energy in Lemont, Illinois, and remains the largest national laboratory by size and scope in the Midwest.

Early in his career, Dr. Spinka taught as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of California Los Angeles between 1973 and 1976. He later served on the board of directors and as a member of the progressive adviser committee of the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility, now known as the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center, between 1983 and 1986. Renowned for his work, he has led many discussions on the interpretation of dibaryon resonances, studied the spin structure of the proton using the RHIC collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York and, among other contributions, was involved with The Dark Energy Survey relating to the identification of supernova candidates. The Dark Energy Survey is an international, collaborative effort to map hundreds of millions of galaxies, detect thousands of supernovae and find patterns of cosmic structure that will reveal the nature of the mysterious dark energy that is accelerating the expansion of the universe.

Born in Chicago, Dr. Spinka initially pursued his education locally, obtaining a bachelor's degree at Northwestern University in Illinois in 1966. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Philosophy at California Institute of Technology in 1970. Dr. Spinka also completed a graduate fellowship with the National Science Foundation at the California Institute of Technology between 1966 and 1970.

Dr. Spinka was recognized as a fellow of the American Physical Society. He is also a member of the American Astronomical Society, as well as several honor societies, including Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Spinka has been included in the first edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 24th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
