Mr. Fred Thomas Martin has been recognized as one of America's Most Influential Artists (And Art Icon) by the International Association of Who's Who

Mr. Fred Thomas Martin, Oakland, CA, is honored as one of America's Most Influential Artists (And Art Icon) for his work and dedication in the fields of Art and Education, earning the role of Dean of Academic Affairs Emeritus.



    OAKLAND, CA, June 01, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mr. Martin's contributions to art are highly venerated throughout his illustrious career, having an impact on students, artists and colleagues alike throughout his time at the San Francisco Art Institute. Dedicating the best part of his career to the Institute, he is proud of his efforts contributing to its extensive successes. He took on the role of Director of Exhibitions from 1958 to 1965 which launched him into the role of Director of the College and by 1983 he was honored to take on the role of Dean of Academic Affairs. Mr. Martin retired in 1992 and remains a highly regarded figure of the San Francisco Art Institute.

Among his time within the San Francisco Art Institute, Mr. Martin also shared his creative and teaching skills in the fields of leadership in art, higher education, writing and experimenting in various media. Mr. Martin also shared his expertise writing and working for ArtWeek in the position of consulting editor from 1976-1992 and spent time with the American Psychological Association (APA) and National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) in the role as lecturer.

Mr. Martin began his academic endeavors studying at the University of California, Berkeley, earning a Bachelor of Art, graduating in 1949. Following on from this, he then went on to complete his postgraduate course work with David Park, Mark Rothko and Clyfford Styll at San Francisco Art Institute (at which point was known as California School of Fine Arts), before returning to University of California, Berkeley in 1954 to finish his Master of Arts.

Renowned in the art circles, Mr. Martin is honored to have had the opportunity to host fifty solo exhibits with locations spanning across the US, California, and the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, P.R.C. He has also been invited to participate in nearly fifty group exhibits.

In recognition of his artistic talent, Mr. Martin has been privileged to have been recognized and acclaimed by various institutes including the National Endowment for the Arts, Richmond Art Center in California, the Oakland Museum of California, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

A published author, Mr. Martin is also recognized for his written works featuring in numerous books and essays over the course of his career to include works such as "The Large Watercolors 1981-82" published before 1990 and "Old Age Art–Kandinsky and Content" published in 2016.

Looking back on his professional accolades, Mr. Martin attributes his success to his work with David Park at the California School of Fine Arts, and to his work Professor Glenn Wessels in the Art Department of UC Berkeley. In his retirement, Mr. Martin continues to paint works of art, with a focus on acrylics.
