Specializing in traffic law cases, she formerly contributed for 13 years as a section supervisor for the Illinois State Police's Alcohol and Substance Testing Section, until 2016. Ms. Easum likewise excelled as a special counsel to the director of the Illinois State Police in Springfield between 1999 and 2003 and the deputy general counsel for the Illinois Secretary of State in Springfield from 1983 to 1999.
Through her community, Ms. Easum has been aligned with the Illinois Traffic Court and Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists as an advisory board member. She has also been affiliated with Midwest Beagle Rescue Education and Welfare (Midwest BREW) in Illinois and Animal Protective League. Affiliated with several legal organizations, she is a member and past chairman of the Illinois State Bar Association Traffic Laws and Courts Section Council for the Illinois State Bar Association. She has been a member and chaired several other groups of the Illinois State Bar Association and is a former member of the Assembly, the group's governing organization. Ms. Easum is also a member and past president of Altrusa International and a past legal advisor of the Altrusa International Foundation.
Becoming fascinated with legal affairs as a teenager, Ms. Easum began working for a local law firm while still attending high school. It was during this time that she developed a fluency with traffic and drunk driving cases. The state of Illinois was likewise in the process of rendering many statute changes relating to drunk driving, which she found very interesting. When Ms. Easum matriculated at college, she acquired a Bachelor of Arts at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1978 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Valparaiso University in 1981. She has been admitted to practice by the Illinois Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of the United States.
During her career, Ms. Easum was involved in the passage of the .08 blood alcohol concentration legislation in Illinois, which was a great achievement. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been included in the 56th and 67th editions of Who's Who in America, the 11th edition of Who's Who in American Law and the 21st edition of Who's Who of American Women. Outside of her career responsibilities, Ms. Easum has drawn much enjoyment from such avocations as taking walks, reading, and appreciating music and theatre.
