Susan Cay Morisato Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

With more than 40 years of industry experience to her credit, Ms. Morisato worked as the president of United Healthcare Medicare & Retirement Insurance Solutions from 2009 until her retirement in 2019. Prior to this appointment, she served as the president of federal programs for the United Health Group Alliances from 2007 to 2008, the chief operating officer for senior and retiree services with Ovations from 2005 to 2007, and on the board of directors for Bankers Life and Casualty Company from 2000 to 2004. Previously, she held various positions for Bankers Life and Casualty Company, including senior vice president from 1996 to 2004, vice president from 1986 to 1995, health product actuary from 1985 to 1986, associate actuary from 1983 to 1985, assistant actuary from 1980 to 1983, and actuarial assistant from 1979 to 1980. Ms. Morisato began her career as an actuarial student for Aetna, Inc. from 1977 to 1979.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Morisato pursued an education at the University of Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1975. She concluded her academic studies in 1977, graduating from the University of Illinois with a Master of Science. In 2012, she was the Commencement speaker for the Class of 2012 for the Mathematics Department for the University of Illinois.

Beyond her efforts within the field, Ms. Morisato has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She is a renowned speaker in her field, having previously contributed as an invited speaker to the 2012 and 2013 Industry Conferences for the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance and for the 1983 Individual Forum for America's Health Insurance Plans. Working on the advisory panel on long term care financing for the Brookings Institution, she was a founding member of the advisory board for the Department of Mathematics at the University of Illinois from 2010 to 2014. Ms. Morisato has also contributed to the Minnesota Zoo Foundation as a trustee from 2005 to 2012, chair of the financial committee from 2008 to 2012, and board treasurer from 2008 to 2012. She is also the founding member of the University of Illinois Actuarial Science Advisory Board, 2018- present, and she was recently named a Board Member to the University of Illinois College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Alumni Council (2020 - ).

In addition to her primary trade, Ms. Morisato remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. A member of the American Academy of Actuaries, she has served the Society of Actuaries as a news editor for health section news from 1988 to 1990, workshop leader in 1990 and 1993, and conference speaker in 2001 and 2002. A conference speaker for the Health Insurance Association of America in 2000, she has been involved with the ad-hoc actuarial working group for long term care non-forfeiture benefits for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in 1992, as well as on the accelerated benefits and long-term care committee for the American Council of Life Insurers from 1997 to 2001.

Furthermore, Ms. Morisato has been a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is also associated with LIMRA International, where she has been the chairman of the compensation and benefits committee from 2004 to 2005, vice chair of the board of directors from 2005 to 2006, chair of the board in 2006, on the strategic marketing insurance committee from 2001 to 2006, and on the board of directors from 2003 to 2007. Likewise, Ms. Morisato was the secretary for the Chicago Actuarial Association from 1983 to 1985, where she served on the program committee from 1987 to 1989. .She has been a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries since 1981.

Additionally, Ms. Morisato has held many responsibilities within America's Health Insurance Plans, where she was a member of the Medigap leadership council in 2009. She was the chair of the Long Term Care Committee of AHIP from 1993-1995, and served as chairman for the senior marketing task force from 2000 to 2001, as well as the task force on Medicare modernization from 2002 to 2004. She has also been on the policy coordination council from 1999 to 2003, the long term care task force from 1988 to 2004, the board of directors in 2004, and the LTC leadership council from 2006 to 2008. Serving on the technology advisory committee from 1991 to 1993, Ms. Morisato was on the legislative policy committee from 1996 to 1999, the nominating committee from 1996 to 1998, the executive committee in 2004, the policy committee in 2004, and the Medicare committee from 2005 to 2008.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Morisato has accrued several accolades and honors throughout her impressive career. In 1996, she was presented with the Founder's Award from America's Health Insurance Plans, and in 2009 she was named a Women Worth Watching by Diversity Journal. Most recently, she was honored with the Greg O'Neill Vision and Integrity Award, What's Next 2019. She was also named a fellow of the Society of Actuaries. Ms. Morisato has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
