David John de Harter, MD, Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Radiation Oncology

Dr. de Harter channels decades of expertise into his work with Panasiatic Corp.



Dr. David John de Harter has written various academic papers on behalf of such publications as the Journal of Radiology.

    PALM CITY, FL, June 22, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David John de Harter, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. de Harter has found success as the director of Panasiatic Corporation since 1988. Additionally, he is president of Harter Land and Lumber Company. Throughout the course of his career, he has held a number of medical positions, including as a partner and the assistant medical director for Mid-Florida Radiation Oncology Associates, head of operations for Treasure Coast Radiation Oncology, director of radiation oncology for Flagstaff Medical Center, CHI Health Immanuel and Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital, and an attending radiation oncologist for Saint Joseph, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and LewisGale Medical Center. Dr. de Harter was a consultant to W.L. Gore Inc., and in various educational roles at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

Dr. de Harter served proudly in the military. In addition to serving as a staff medical officer for the Atlantic Fleet, he served as assistant chief medical officer at the Naval Base Dispensary and at the Charleston Naval Hospital as a staff general medical officer in orthopedics. His research was presented in 1975 at the XI International Cancer Congress in Florence, Italy, (his development of a system for more accurate delivery of radioactive sources). Dr. de Harter notably established a regional radiation oncology center along with Gordon Adams, MD, a surgeon, and the famous TV show host Johnny Carson. The resulting facility, located in Norfolk, Nebraska, was christened as the Carson Cancer Center, named in honor of Mr. Carson's parents.

Dr. de Harter studied at a number of universities, including Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1965, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received a Doctor of Medicine in 1968. He subsequently completed a rotating internship with the U.S. Naval Hospital, and a residency in radiation oncology, as well as a fellowship in radiotherapy through The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Certified in therapeutic radiology and radiation oncology through the American Board of Radiology, Dr. de Harter maintains emeritus membership in numerous organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

A dedicated community advocate, Dr. de Harter contributed as a member of the board of directors with the American Cancer Society, a trustee with Omaha Public Library and as a member of the cancer committee for the Saint Lucie Medical Center. In previous years, he lent his expertise to such organizations as Students Working Against Tobacco, the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, NM, various divisions of the American Cancer Society, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. de Harter has written various academic papers on behalf of such publications as the Journal of Radiology.

In light of his professional accomplishments, Dr. de Harter received the Evan S. and Marion Helfaer Scholarship in 1967, the Lewis E. and Edith Phillips Scholarship in 1968 and the Middleton Fellowship through the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Wisconsin in 2012. Looking toward the future and outside his professional activities, Dr. de Harter enjoys off shore deep sea fishing, golf, gardening and spending time with his family.
