American Claims Ensurance Shares 7 Washing Machine Water Damage Prevention Tips

Here are 7 tips to help you prevent water damage to your home as a result of your washing machine.

Did you know that washing machine water leaks are one of the leading sources for water damage in the home?

PHILADELPHIA, PA, July 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Here are 7 tips to help you prevent water damage to your home as a result of your washing machine.

1) Do not overload the washing machine with laundry.
Over-sized loads can damage your washer. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the maximum load capacity for your specific model. Make sure you distribute your clothes evenly inside the washing machine.

2) Use the correct detergent for your washing machine.
Use the recommended amount of detergent to avoid suds and bubbles that can cause the washer to overflow. Keep the amount of detergent below the fill line printed on the cup, and do not use additional detergent than what is recommended

3) Regularly check all water supply hoses
Check for worn tubing, stress cracks or loose connections. Replace damaged hoses with newer types that are made of flexible tubing encased in a stainless-steel braided exterior for superior strength and corrosion.

4) Replace hoses every five years
Replace the hoses even if they are not damaged to prevent possible future water damage from your washing machine. Cracking or corrosion may occur on the inside of the hose and may not be visible until it is too late.

5) Check the drain hose for wear
Make sure the drain hose fits tightly into the main drain line. Make sure it does not dislodge when the washer agitates or drains.

6) Leave at least 3 inches of space between the wall and your washer
This will prevent the main hoses from becoming kinked.

7) Turn off water to both supply valves when the machine is sitting idle.
Always turn off the valves if you will be away. You should have lever-operated valves that can be quickly closed and opened in one easy motion.
