BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA, July 13, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Soontae Ahn has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Backed by nearly 35 years of experience in the steel industry, Dr. Ahn excels in his work with the Korea Heat Treatment Company. Additionally, he works as the director of the Central Technology Research Institute of KISWEL Company, the technical director of the Welding Society Southeast in Korea, an editorial member of the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials, a visiting scholar with the Colorado School of Mines and the president of Samhwa Steel Company. Dr. Ahn is a specialist who has developed various high-strength new materials since 1999 while working on metal materials research. Notably, he developed a new high-strength steel wire with tensile strength of 800-1200MPa that does not break even if forged at room temperature and a new manufacturing process. It is an innovative product that can withstand five times the impact of conventional products at extremely low temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius.
An expert in his field, Dr. Ahn is also responsible for the development and the expansion of cold coilable high-strength steel wires with 2GPa or higher, a steel plate with high tensile strength and a process for the same having a lightweight effect, and 1.5 GPa high strength prestressed concrete steel bar with superior ductility of spot welded parts. Most of his research has been devoted to new eco-friendly processes that minimize the use of fossil fuels and to making cars lighter through high strength. Due to his considerable expertise, he has also served as the director of the Technical Research Institute for the Kiswel Company. Moreover, Dr. Ahn was active as an editor with a major Korean materials science organization.
In pursuit of his aspirations, Dr. Ahn earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Pusan National University in 2002. In light of his outstanding body of work, he accepted the Korean Presidential Award for Promotion of Science and Technology, an Excellent Patent Award from the Korean Patent Office, and the Engineer of the Month and Jang Yeongsil Awards from the Korean Minister of Science and Technology. Looking forward, he aims to develop a new material for high-strength automobiles while also reducing car weight and increasing passenger safety. Dr. Ahn also intends to develop medical stents for blood vessels.
