COVENTRY, ENGLAND, July 16, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The annual gathering of the Iranian Resistance in support of freedom in Iran will go virtual this year. In the past, more than 100,000 Iranians and supporters of the Resistance participated in physical rallies in Paris around this time of the year. But this year, the semi-virtual gathering is expected to have a wider reach, connecting more than 30,000 locations worldwide, with thousands in some of the locations, turning it into the biggest online gathering in history.
The event is set to take place on Friday, July 17, 2020. Some 30,000 connections points, and tens of thousands of people, in 102 countries in various time zones will be linked together to support a free and democratic Iran.
They will be joined by at least 1,000 high-profile personalities, politicians, and parliamentarians from five continents. International luminaries will speak at the historic event, including former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, former U.S. senator Joseph Lieberman, former ministers like the French minister of defense, the Italian minister of foreign affairs, the Canadian minister of foreign affairs, a U.S. attorney general, as well as ambassadors and bipartisan parliamentarians from across the U.S. and Europe.
Smaller in-person gatherings will take place in about a dozen world capitals, including Berlin, Washington, D.C., and Paris. Elaborate displays and LED screens will broadcast images of the global summit to the many attendees at landmark venues in these capitals.
Significantly, Resistance Units inside Iran, affiliated with the main opposition Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), will send their message to the world community, in a display of the clandestine anti-regime activities that have picked up exponentially in recent years.
The event will also pay tribute to victims of the coronavirus pandemic, which has taken over 70,000 lives in Iran so far.
In addition to broadcasting political content as well as entertainment, the event will be livestreamed on seven host platforms in Farsi, English, and Arabic languages.
The Free Iran Global Summit cannot take place at a more historic juncture. The situation in Iran is ripe for change. The economy has deteriorated rapidly, with the national currency at historic lows. In addition, deepening social crises, poverty, and unprecedented levels of corruption and social disenchantment set the groundwork for two major uprisings in November 2019 and January 2020. The protests were brutally suppressed but regime officials repeatedly warn about more protests.
The Free Iran Global Summit will echo the Iranian people's demands for a free and secular republic. Bipartisan members of parliaments around the world support the call while warning about the regime's growing terror threat and nuclear proliferation . The event calls for a more resolute policy against the regime while urging the international community to hold the theocracy to account for its past conduct.
