After contracting poliomyelitis as a toddler and losing her father to the disease, she received prolonged treatment in a Naval Hospital followed by physical therapy for a period of five years. Surrounded by nurses and doctors, she developed the desire to become a nurse and help people in need and at the tender age of 16 ½ she entered the Los Angeles County Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her California license upon completion of the program. After serving that hospital as a nurse in Pediatric Intensive Care, Ms. Woodfin began a career in emergency services. During that career she developed the very first Paramedic Base Station in the state and became a County of Los Angeles Mobile Intensive Care Nurse, among the first five to achieve that designation. She became Emergency Department supervisor and then Director, served as Paramedic Liaison Nurse, and taught the first EMT I training program as an instructor for the local City College.

After 8 years of work in the Santa Monica Hospital E.D. she became the E. D. Clinical Instructor and Paramedic Liaison Nurse for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Not quite four years later she was hired as Flight Coordinator for Life Flight Southern California, a helicopter transport service, where she also provided flight nurse education and developed the service's first fixed wing transport program. During her emergency services career, Ms. Woodfin became a certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN), a certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), President of the California Emergency Nurses chapter, and was elected to serve a five-years as a Los Angeles County Commissioner for the LA County Emergency Services Commission. She also served as a California Disaster Service Worker and was a member of the California Governor's Earthquake Task Force and served the Los Angeles Olympic Committee, providing nursing services for the swimming and diving venue in the 1984 Olympics. During this time she also earned a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration.

In 1980 she was hired by Prime Care California, an Emergency Physician group, and served as their Nursing Consultant, traveling throughout the United States negotiating contracts and providing consultation to Emergency Departments. This role was followed by positions in acute care during which she developed several ambulatory service business lines and developed and implemented a nursing case management system. She next was hired by FHP, Inc., a large multi-state managed care organization, as a Utilization Manager in the California Plan network followed by a promotion to Director of Risk Management for the California Plan network. Ms. Woodfin has remained in Risk Management ever since, hired as an outsourced Risk Manager for Aon Corporation Risk Consulting Services. She also served for five years as Vice President of Risk Management Consulting Services for a long term care company, building a client base of 10 other companies. In 2009, she developed and incorporated CORE Risk Services in Sandy, Utah and continues to serve long term care clients with loss prevention and control services.

Ms. Woodfin is a published author and a respected educator for nurses, physicians and Paramedics. She has served as President of the Southern California Association for Healthcare Risk Management, an association that recognized her with the Lifetime Achievement in Risk Management Award. She also holds the designation of Distinguished Fellow of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (DFASHRM) and Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM). Dedicated to her community, she has served as a volunteer emergency responder with the FEMA-affiliated Utah Medical Reserve Corps for the past six years.
