Ms. McClendon is a registered nurse and patient navigator with nearly 40 years of experience to her credit and a specialty in oncology care. Prior to embarking on her professional journey, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 1982. Ms. McClendon subsequently became certified as a registered nurse in intravenous therapy in 1998 and has held additional certifications in chemotherapy, basic life support, pediatric advanced life support, and advanced cardiovascular life support.
Ms. McClendon began her career as a staff nurse in the medical short-stay unit at Baptist Hospital, now known as Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown, in Nashville, Tennessee. She quickly rose to the head nurse of the medical-surgical floor of the aforementioned hospital before transitioning to a charge nurse responsible for The Institute of Plastic Surgery. She has also worked in Medical Short Stay, IV Therapy, Early Morning Admissions, and the Preoperative Holding Unit. Additionally, contributing to the hospital as a radiation oncology nurse, Ms. McClendon has served Ascension St. Thomas Midtown as a breast health nurse navigator since 2019, a position that allows her to draw upon her expertise to support and advise patients as they learn of their breast cancer diagnosis and prepare for their impending treatment.
Beyond her impressive clinical work, Ms. McClendon is active in medical outreach within her community and has volunteered her time for several noteworthy causes, including the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure and Ascension St. Thomas' Medical Mission at Home, the latter for which provided lung screenings on a mobile bus as well as follow-up appointments with physicians in the St. Thomas Health system. In order to stay current on developments in her field, she maintains her membership with the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators. Outside of her career-related endeavors, Ms. McClendon is passionate about regional community theater and performs with the chorale of the Willow Oak Center for Arts & Learning.
