Dr. Volker Treichel Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of International Development



    NORTH BETHESDA, MD,August 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Volker Treichel has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Driven by aspirations of working in international economics and development, Dr. Treichel began his career as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in 1993, rising to the position of resident representative in Albania (1999-2002) at the time of the Kosovo crisis and mission chief for Togo (2004-2006) at a time when the country began to reengage with the international community. He subsequently found success with the World Bank Group, serving as Lead Country Economist or Program Leader for Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo and India, and as Lead Economist in the Office of the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank. Dr. Treichel currently channels his experience into his role as Regional Economist of the International Finance Corporation for West and Central Africa and South Asia.

In his positions at the World Bank Group, he has published or contributed to a number of books, including "Putting Nigeria to Work--- A Strategy for Employment and Growth", and "Against the Consensus" and "New Structural Economics", by Prof. Justin Yifu Lin, the former Chief Economist of the World Bank. He also led one of the first Systematic Country Diagnostics of the World Bank (for Cote d'Ivoire) and currently leads preparation of the new Country Private Sector Diagnostics, including in Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

An expert in his field, Dr. Treichel earned a Doctor of Philosophy in economics from Kiel University in 1993 and Advanced Studies Certificate from the Kiel Institute of World Economics in 1991. He also holds a Master's in Business Administration from Clarkson University which he earned as a Fulbright scholar in 1990.

In addition to being an economist, Dr. Treichel is an accomplished French horn player, and, with his chamber music groups, won First Prize at the Misbin Family Chamber Music competition in 2015 and Third Prize in 2017.
