The "4IR for Africa"

Science,Technology and Engineering graduates will receive the unique opportunity to participate in a Global Robotics training program designed to develop Artificial Intelligence and Robotics skills in South Africa and the rest of Africa

    PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA, August 05, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Global Robotics in partnership with Talent Attraction Group (TAG) has committed to driving skills development and job creation in South Africa. The group has already launched the recruitment and selection process to follow through on this commitment.

The "4IR for Africa" program is aimed at developing STEM skills in Africa as part of Global Robotics' mission to help Africa run better and improve people's lives. Global Robotic's social investment strategy is focused on transferring STEM skills and knowledge to the unemployed graduates

With 4th Industrial Revolution and the scarcity of STEM skills on the African continent high on the agenda, this program — a first of its kind in the industry in Africa — will offer selected graduates the opportunity to develop world-class STEM and business skills.

According to WEF (2018) by 2022 over 75 million jobs will have disappeared and replaced by 133 million new types of jobs. This is because of the 4th Industrial Revolution, which refers to how high-level technologies are enhancing our world. It's a future that could have driverless cars, drone deliveries and shops run by artificial intelligence. That's why so many jobs will disappear, and new ones will be created.

In support of this effort, several other activities are underway in South Africa, most notably our new robotics plant in HENNOPSPARK, Centurion, South Africa where we will be training graduates and manufacturing Anti Epidemic Robots to help manage and prevent Covid19 in Africa.

To inspire the next generation of engineers, Global Robotics has invested in Robotics 4 Kids Academy project to prepare kids between the ages of 7-13 for "Industry 4.0," the fourth industrial revolution where products will soon be expected to be able to communicate and act autonomously with one another in intelligently networked production processes.

Global Robotics sees huge opportunities for Africa and the investment into this program over the next five years is indicative of our commitment. Bearing in mind that the unemployment rate varies from 31.0 percent in South Africa, there is a distinct requirement for business to help develop an appropriate skills base, especially when taking into account the enormous growth opportunity for Africa from an infrastructure perspective."

The 4IR for Africa program has been crafted to meet the needs of the complex African skills landscape. The pilot phase for the program will kick off in South Africa, October 2020 with over 100 graduates soon to be trained. Over the next five years, Global Robotics plans to roll out the program to Zimbwabwe, Botswana, Rwanda, Senegal, Angola and Nigeria.

The program will target on average 100 graduates per year, per country, which will result in 2,700 previously unskilled graduates to be trained in the much sought-after Global Robotics skills sphere. A second phase of the rollout is planned to extend to an additional set of countries, including Mauritius and the Ivory Coast.
